Re: EEPROM - the Holy Grail of Sideways Rom?

Which cartridge PCB have you modified? Is it the one described by MartinB here ? Or another? I've done the above mod. without any issues! Would you like to try some known good boards? I could send an ABR, ARA III and one of the above linked boards. It might eliminate things. Have you tried Ken's V42...

Re: Electron versions of archived software

Okay, so next question: does anyone want any/all of these cassettes? Free for postage, obviously. Otherwise they'll only get stored in a cardboard box in the loft as I realistically won't have the time to do anything with them in the foreseeable. I could add these to my collection . . . I plan to c...

Dave, just make a copy of the drive files on the SD card on your PC, and drop them back on if you bugger it up :) Don't worry about copying between LUNs on the 8bit machines :D d. Thanks, Daniel . . . That's exactly what I intend to do . . . I was 'snatching' a few minutes, yesterday, to continue t...

Re: ADFS Deleted File Recovery - Assistance Required

Thanks, Jonathan . . . Looks like I've some work to do! One handy point about using SD cards, for storage, is you can back-them-up and just keep having a go! I'm a bit unsure about using something that backs up all files - due the the size of the disc! Hopefully I'll be able to use one of the other ...

with DFS, I had a program from TMU or TAU, it was easy IF a basic deleted prog, just went through the sectors to find start of it (handy if had 'REM bobs prog' at start), save to RAM, then when found the last sector of it, just save all RAM off to another disc (just incase got end wrong) ADFS shoul...

ADFS Deleted File Recovery - Assistance Required

I deleted a file, accidentally, by mistyping #-o It's on my BeebSCSI, so ADFS. I usually use AFM which makes you 'look' at the files you highlight (and no typing involved) but, in a rush as I'd been repurposed, again, all day :? What's the best tool? How do I find the deleted file? How do I reinstat...

Re: AT28C256 SOFT Lock Issues with ARA III & ABR

I don't expect it to be any different, but it might be worth trying the latest v4.2B version of the EEPxx tools that I posted yesterday. There are some subtle differences between that and the EEP32C version, which was just a quick and dirty patch. I'll try v4.2B ASAP - it may be tomorrow, though, a...

Re: AT28C256 SOFT Lock Issues with ARA III & ABR

I don’t think it’s my code in the AP6 - I wrote all the MGC tools but none (that I’m aware of) for the AP6. I suspect the latter is JGH’s (and maybe others?) but not me. Martin's correct the AP6/New Plus 1 Support ROM is Acorn's, ACP's and JGH's work. No Soft Lock in there! There is an update to th...

@DaveH - I appreciate you've already indicated that you're not wanting to spend any more time looking at the LOCK function either, but it would be really useful if you could confirm that the EEP32C version of the utility that I posted further up in this thread addresses the issues you were seeing. ...

Question: Why do you think Softlock is useful? .... Just curious . . . I do recognise the limitations of the soft lock function in the beeb, but my thoughts for retaining the functionality are: I assume we need to keep and maintain the unlock function, just in case someone has an EEPROM that's prev...

Re: AT28C256 SOFT Lock Issues with ARA III & ABR

It's good to hear that none of the issues reported in this thread actually appear to be related to substandard supply of EEPROMs - unless we consider the timing issues with the LOCK function being a quality issue with the EEPROMs. I'm not convinced that it is. I'm not sure that this is correct - bu...

It's a HD146818P, so I'd try a bit of an ebay trawl or utsource if nothing appears at a reasonable price there? Not sure if Dave H has them, or Retroclinic might too?

Afaik the lithium battery is embedded in the DS1216 and cannnot be replaced. I don't think it can do any harm if the battery is empty except that the battery backup for cmos ram and the internal time device won't work. Dallas had several real time clock devices bitd. Some were also use in IBM compa...

Electron:
Just loaded ADT into an ARA III slot #2 - Byte at &8000 =0

Original EEP32 LOCK 23 changes the byte at &8000 th &55
Test code: EEP32 LOCK 23 - This gives "at line 4098" error!

I'll try on a Master later - going out for Fud now . . .
