Finally have a RiscPC working so I've been able to check if the Blitz interface works . . . I does :D

Started up, it found the CF card interface OK

Re: Curious Electron keyboard fault (Iss 4)

I took out the ULA and cleaned the contacts with IPA. They didn't look dirty or tarnished at all, but it doesn't matter because cleaning has fixed the problem and the keyboard is now fine. I still can't figure out what the actual failure mode was..! At the same time I used IPA to clean the edge con...

Re: Cleaning PCBs

Two things to consider when dealing with flux on a PCB: (1) Most flux is No-Clean, these days. So no real need to clean. It hardens over time and doesn't affect any of the joints. The Only reason to clean is for aesthetics! If anyone has had one of my boards and looked - I never clean. I do clean re...

I've had lots of requests for this feature but haven't had the time to do anything about it. However . . . . <secret plan> I'll be talking to DavidB and all the other MGC 'design team' members shortly, so maybe that will be motivation to add this 8)

I would happily order a VFS if there is gonna be a run... Already have a beeb scsi and if someone patched adfs I'd like to have it internally mounted.
I'd like an internal BeebSCSI in my Master too. But it would make accessing the SD card difficult to back-up, add or remove content etc.

For Sale/32 Bit Hardware/Today I received - ? - RiscPC bits and bobs

A while ago I was lucky enough to be given 2 x RiscPCs (one without a keyboard) from Durham Council. They'd been in use for managing their bus routes and timetables. There were more available, initially, but the best ones had already been bagged. The ones I have were 'found' when I turned up at thei...

As Mark has indicated, you'll lose the low output impedance. What's the reason for the changes? I understand the rationalization of the resistors - is removing the transistor cost, component count or both? - dual transistor?

Re: A5000 woes

With something like this problematic VY86C020, do you ever find yourself needing to actually desolder the chip, touch up the pads, then solder it down again, or is it pretty much always sufficient to just apply flux and heat without actually removing the chip? Solder, over time, changes its structu...

Re: A5000 woes

One thing to remember, with flux . . . it needs 'activating'! - I find, with stubborn joints: apply the flux and heat, allowing it do its job. Then apply soldering iron. This also helps to reduce thermal shock to the part being worked on.

Re: Storing & Protecting hardware

I also liked a previous suggestion on here that applies to any computers containing batteries... storing them upside down long term might be beneficial so that if they leak it's less likely the board would be damaged since gravity would instead direct the nastiness towards the underside of the top ...
