Re: Help required for the new BBC games archive

I have imported the spreadsheet into a database and got a php script to query it. I think the first thing is to display it on the browser then allow paging sorting and searching. Lee mentions 1 disc per program. This isn't how they are arranged at present. I am not aware of a wordpress plugin that c...

Re: Help required for the new BBC games archive

I think this is a good idea too. I would like to have a go - I have rusty php and mysql skills that I will dust off. I really like the simple start that Lee suggests - I think this is the way to go. I did look into this a while ago in the hope of finding something prebuilt. I did start to do somethi...

Re: Stardot archive

Since nobody else has answered Ill give my thoughts. Money takes a lot of effort to manage, the transparency of where it goes and maybe donors have different ideas of what should be done with it than the person managing it. Its just easier for people to buy software we don't have on their own initia...

Re: Stardot archive

Yes, do please hold fire. Holding fire. We want to put the emphasis on getting the new, core archive in shape (e.g. directory structures, common filenaming, agreed file formats for archiving etc) before even thinking about a web-based front end. Hang on - you asked me to hold fire on a web front en...

Re: Stardot archive

And it might be a good start for me to convert the Atom Disc Archive on acornatom.nl to the new ATM file-format. I am not sure what this means. I did briefly look at the site, it looks more like a desktop application, but I was thinking of creating a website. Are you thinking we can just use the da...

Re: Stardot archive

This is something I have been thinking about. I would really like to help work on this. I am thinking that a database driven archive would be good. Leenew has posted a spreadsheet posted which could form a basis for the database, then we would want to upload the latest disc image for the game, image...

Re: landscape - BBCscape Acorn user September 1989

Sorry, I think I was actually using BeebEm, which does allow you to paste. Ill attach an ssd image if that is better for people. I uploaded the BBC Master version which is higher resolution and therefore slower. To change it back to the model B version you need to change as follows from line 140: si...

I typed this in back in the day, and had a hankering to run it again. I was amazed by it then, but, it seems less impressive after playing Minecraft. Anyway I attach it in the hope I won't have to type it in again next time I want to run it in another 25 years! It is ASCII text to paste into B-em, s...

RS423 to raspberry pi 3.3v

Hi I want to connect the bbc terminal program to the serial console of the raspberry pi. I understand the raspberry pi uses 3.3v levels for the signals to the gpio pins, and the bbc uses roughly 5 volts. Looking at articles on the web (e.g. http://codeandlife.com/tags/max3232/) I see a chip like the...

Re: b-em on the raspberry pi - There is hope

Interesting, but looks like it has been abandoned - see the last page. Anyway, the mode 7 characters are defined in bbctext.h. They are converted by bbc_makechars. The array is of 96 characters, each 6*10 pixels. So they array size is 96*60. There are three arrays defined as above: teletext_characte...

Re: bad dim at line 110

Thanks for your help. I kind of realised as soon as I posted, what was going on. Soon after there was a gosub 1100, but of course I had mistyped it: gosub 110 So it was running the dim twice. I feel a bit silly now. flaxcottage gets the points for guessing what was wrong! Out of interest, obviously ...

Re: b-em on the raspberry pi - There is hope

Thanks Rich. I was aware there were cases where I would have to mark the whole screen dirty, hardware scrolling being the one I thought of. Of course I am working in mode 7 simply because that is what the micro boots into. I think it will be worth it even in mode 7 because we are saving: 1) The writ...

bad dim at line 110

I was reliving the old days by typing in a program, they fun being debugging it and then realising it was a bit rubbish and going for the next one. It is how I learned programming. Anyway, I have a program, which starts like this: 100 REM FRUIT MACHINE 110 DIM F$(4) When running it I get the error B...

Re: b-em on the raspberry pi - There is hope

This is getting a bit more difficult. Looking at the memory, I see that ram[0x7c28] contains the BBC Computer message. This is the start of the second line which agrees with the advanced guide. Looking at the code, we are coming from line 596 of video.c where dat is the actual character to display. ...

I had to restart the program, so I started it in ddd, then once the screen came up, interrupted it. looking at x /1024b->line[86] the first memory address that changed was 0x7ffff4079f70 so i set a watchpoint on it watch *0x7ffff4079f70 continue then in b-em cls and the program stops in video.c line...

Re: Who wants PCBBC for Windows?!

Thanks for this! Do you think that Stuart would consider releasing the source code under some license that would allow study and reuse (e.g. GPL, BSD or some such)? I would like to have a look "under the cover". I realise its a bit of a cheeky request after he has generously released the program, bu...

Hi Lee I attach my spreadsheet for D in zipped csv format, (It should open in any spreadsheet) it contains some genres for games I was able to play, though you will probably want to alter them to what you are using. I suspect the problem with blockbusters is that I didn't know the correct key to ans...

Re: STH 143 Disc compilation Excel list - Thoughts??

I was thinking I might help, I have a master 128 with an MMC (It came with a STH collection, bit sure if it is the same one you are testing). I would get more failures on the master than you would on the model B. I could maybe try running the games on an emulator. I was already kind of thinking we s...

Having profiled the code, it seems the most time is spent in video_poll. The beebdroid people have done some tuning here, so I thought I would try and use that. Re: b-em on the raspberry pi - There is hope

Thanks for that - so that explains why gdb can't give me a stack trace. So I will not ask for a stack trace and that will be fine. I have fixed the problem. All it was is that I had not included disc.h into my mangled 6502.c, which meant there was no definition for fdc_callback and so the program wa...
