Re: Wakefield Acorn Show / 20 April 2013 / W. Yorks

Nothing laid on. This is up to us to get going. I'll bring my pre-tested and pre-terminated wiring with clock. So all you'll need to do it plug in!

Let me know which stations number you're using and I'll make sure I don't overlap.

I bought a GBS from fleabay. Worked for about a week and
then starting going blank occasionally and then just died.

I liked it when it worked.

Re: Domesday LVROM battery

HMANCH and VMANCH appear to be stuck high (measured them off the PD0011 on module R). As they're active low, I assume this means I need to work back to module I?
Before spending too much time on module I check the CV-TBM input.
If that is also "stuck" then it might be module H.

Re: Domesday LVROM battery

Did you want to bring your dead drive along as well as the disc?
Maybe we can do some faultfinding on it.

Also, that VP415 service manual, do you have to original paper
copy? If so would it be possible for me to borrow to scan the
fold-outs in one piece (I have an A3 scanner)?

so with it still going at a few hundred RPM it got badly scuffed and doesn't play correctly any more.
Scuffs are easily fixable on Laserdiscs, moreso than CDs which only have
a plastic protective coat on one side.

Re: Domesday LVROM battery

FYI, I'm now concluding that 004 is due to badly dished discs which has been caused by them being left in the drive. These 415s are designed to tilt the head when the edges sag lower than the centre but I suspect it's running out of travel when the edge is higher than the centre. When I flipped the ...

Re: Domesday LVROM battery

Rob, to diagnose error 53 you need to read page 8 of the Circuit Description carefully, particularly the Drive Processor sub e) part. You are well past getting focus and general locking of various things. I would: 1) Check the RAD-ER signal on a 'scope and make sure that it settles within 0.5s as sh...

Next best bet is a hot air paintstripper as you can

Re: Wakefield Acorn Show / 20 April 2013 / W. Yorks

After fruitlessly trying to desolder the 6502 from my electron I've decided it's probably a good idea to ask someone more capable than me do it. Is anyone willing to do this for me? For DIP it's almost always best to snip the top of each pin where it enters the package, remove the package body and ...

Re: Research Machines 380z. Anyone got one or disks??

I bought a 380z from my secondary school about 25 years ago as working scrap. About 15 years ago my boss mentioned that his kids were still using them in primary school as the educational packages of software they had were great. So I ended up giving my 380z away to the school, which was an upgrade ...

Re: USB Econet (was: Can you tell what it is yet ?)

Another update:
Econet frames now being transmitted and received from the MCU
from a real B (including the dongle being the clock box for the net).
Just need to do the software wiring between the USB and Econet
parts of the MCU, so very close now.
Haven't done any collision detect handling code yet.

I read in some docs that L1 FS supports 12k max and L2 onward support up to the maximum size permissible before the 10sec timeout so approx 100k. For now, I'm only supporting Econet frames that fit within one Ethernet MTU, that is 1514-[Eth hdr]-[IP hdr]-[UDP hdr] due to only 4k available within the...

Another update. Now got the USB port receiving and sending AUN datagrams to the micro. Just need to implement the bit that moves the data in/out of the datagram to a Econet 4-way transfer. I'll implement the original AUN addressing scheme to start with and then add an AUNmap table at a later point. ...
