A Bitstick's the answer - nothing quite as good as a Bitstick for playing Elite in my opinion. The joystick potentiometer controls speed - it's great.

Pretty certain I have some of those. Do you just want the tan coloured plastic 3.5" drive face?

It may be coincidental - but this post http://www.stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11669#p147448 notes that the service manual mentions Defender issues caused by mismatched ram chips. Could this be your problem? Our service centres tell us that there is a series of rather obscure faults whi...

Hi Steve, No I hadn't noticed - that's fantastic. So the broad plan is - 1. Breadboard 1mhz cpu circuit, ram card, video and FDC cards. Get them working as prototypes. 2. Figure out how to create a close as possible replicas of the boards by imaging photographs of PCB's and overlaying into PCB desig...

Hi Ad,

Sorry for the late response, been a busy month with real life taking place of Acorns :D

That's really nice that you have been to New Zealand - its starting to get a bit colder here - heading to 15deg - winters just around the corner.

Re: Project System 4 - Any ideas please

Hi Steve, Slow progress - I've been in touch with a flat front panel supplier in US - they've been very helpful but they don't have all the sizes required, and they are quite expensive (about 200 quid all up) which is a bit risky since I'm not 100% certain of the actual panel sizes, so I might do th...

Re: Project System 4 - Any ideas please

Not a bad idea Mark, certainly to the point off getting something started, and it looks like there are lots of System circuit schematics to work from (and some of Rom code too). Broadly I was wanting to replicate as closely as possible a System 4- I have a fair number of TTL and BBC Micro spare IC's...
