I've been popping in to quite a few picking up bits and pieces. But it seems it might be the end of the line, all my local ones are closed now, anyone noticed any still open?

Re: Internal Acorn Documents

Possibly you've seen this thread on the ROOL forums asking about evidence of US sales - maybe there are some other documents on the CD which would be able to help with that? https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/5/topics/10863 I am afraid not, I've not found any reference to US sales. There's som...

Computerphile (a regular series on comp sci topics), just posted a video on software preservation. The example used was a bit of beeb educational software going via an A3000 to BeebEm on Mac.

Internal Acorn Documents

From a kind donation from someone who has asked to remain anonymous, here are some internal docs which I thought I'd share. This was from a CD containing a whole load of Apps, games, educational software (acorn and 3rd party) that I'm sorting through to see if there's things I can release. There's a...

RPCEmu 0.9.0

A new version of RPCEmu is available, 0.9.0 http://www.marutan.net/rpcemu/ The two major changes in version 0.9.0 compared to previous versions. Changed to the Qt5 library for the GUI. Previously we used the Allegro 4 library and additional win32 code. The GUI is shared by all platforms, reducing ma...

Have you tried dragging the 'Font cache' slider higher in the task manager? (left click on the Acorn Icon).

1) The one time I needed to make a board I used this site https://pcbshopper.com/ , you enter your details and it gives you a choice of outlets and prices. The one I picked for my needs was smart-prototyping. 2) I followed a youtube video, which may be a bit basic given your experience, https://www....

Re: RiscPC Second CPU slot ARM possible?

The 'first ever' risc pc second processor was an ARM. Used internally inside Acorn to test the bus mastering, one of them is now at the CCH in Cambridge, via the Chris's Acorns collection. http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org.uk/32bit_UpgradesA2G/Acorn_ARM6102ndProc.html This of course was not a ...

Well that's the end of that. It achieved just under 1% funding of its goal (of which they'll receive none as they didn't meet the goal), from 42 backers. To the reach its goal it would have required ~3000 backers. Of the 42 backers, 40 wanted to pay the early-bird discounted price and only two peopl...

Re: Maplin Electronics in administration

Oddly enough Maplin is (or was) profitable, they were turning over enough money to cover the expenses *except* the interest on their debt.

I think it's more that Maplin ended up not being for 'Us' [1] :)

The 10-30% off seems to bring prices inline with other retailers, but that's not enough of discount to sway some people to buy products with no warranty (effectively). Prices will drop over time, at the moment their trying their best to recover as much money as possible and trying to build some 'hyp...

My advice for gauging the size of the current risc os games market would be to contact Antony Bartram of AMCOG games, he's released 8 commercial titles over the last couple of years. http://www.amcog-games.co.uk/ From previous discussions with him I would expect 100 sales of a single title would be ...
