Re: Post editing

Then we'll get people complaining about there being a hidden setting that lets people view edit counts! (and that will be the complaint even if we put it in a sticky announcement). edit: I realise this sounds slightly flippant, but these are the things we weigh up and toy with up every time we flip ...

Re: Post editing

I have had a look over lunch, it does seem fairly easy to make a forum theme based on the current one that omits the edited message footer unless someone puts something in the reason box. If this sounds like it would mitigate most concerns then I'll put that into play this evening - it will require...

Re: My Turbo MMC Misadventures

I have a set of these for inserting and extracting. https://www.jonard.com/Products/WK-7-IC-InsertionExtraction-Kit I'd strongly advise against using this: https://www.jonard.com/Products/ProductDetail.aspx?p={1AF7BD48-1DE3-4602-8850-9B22843999A4} I've seen more ICs destroyed by these than removed ...

Re: My Turbo MMC Misadventures

Hi James :) No such thing as stupidity, everything is a learning process. 1) How close was I to completing the original installation before I panicked or was I way off and doing it all wrong? ROM in, connect cable, away you go. You shouldn't have got a beep/flashing cursor, the beeb will still work ...

Re: Post editing

@Richard - having had a chat with a couple of people, this is my understanding too, and that the behaviour was lost after the hack and upgrade. I'm quite happy to have a look at creating an alternative theme that doesn't show this information (that seems within the bounds of my abilities), but the f...

No, I'm not clear on this....
Daniel wrote:....we want people to be able to edit any post as they see fit (this is the way it's always been).
That was specifically in relation to a suggestion that we time-limit how long people have to edit posts... We don't want to do that, and we've never done that.

Post Edits

So far as we can tell here, there are two choices given the way the forum software is currently set up. We appreciate there are other options which involve allowing editing of the head posts and not other posts, but we want people to be able to edit any post as they see fit (this is the way it's alw...

Re: Post editing

I should add - it's really not about being not too keen! I think the compromise would be perfect, but without modifying the forum code or writing/modifying a module (which I'm personally incapable of doing as I don't know PHP or anything about the deep inner workings of phpbb, and also don't have th...

Re: Post editing

I can, I think, only make them visible to mods and admins - but other people do want to see them too as has been suggested in this thread. It's going to be impossible to please everyone on this one, and I don't think any of us are paid enough to work out a bespoke solution (I note it's already chewe...

Re: Post editing

OK - I've added the autodrafts module - I'd really recommend using that you do your best to ensure you're happy with your post before posting it (I realise this is a change to some people's workflows!) :). You'll see that it saves a copy of your post every 20 seconds or so. If you don't post it it'l...

Re: Post editing

It was an image posted in the mod forum originally hence the permissions weren't right.

Linking to an insecure site is OK - your browser will just say that it's mixed content though.

Re: Post editing

OK, I think I know what did it then, but I don't think there's anything that can be done about it unless we wish to remove the edit thing altogether. I personally would be reluctant to do that as it covers everyone's backsides - users and mods alike. Everything on here is a tradeoff to some extent -...

OK - I've got you now properly - this seems to be a change in behaviour since phpbb3.1 - it's part of the core software. Either it shows edits like this, or not at all :(

Re: Post editing

Actually, pretty much all other boards show this - it's on by default in this installation. From a moderation point of view it is useful as it does let people know when we've changed things, and also when things have been changed. Given some of the current issues we've had (which you probably won't ...

You sure you are not just saying that so as to keep the price down and nab yourself a bargain?

That price is well beyond bargain, even now. Quite sure :D - I've got enough junk that's semi useful without adding useless to it!

You'll get "drive empty" if the disc controller's not receiving regular index pulses :) - I'd check that line!

You're right - unless you have a ROM installed that provides the *ROMS command (e.g. the AP6 ROM), then no, it won't work.

Prompted by a couple of recent incidents, that will have (hopefully) passed under the radar of most, I'm just posting to re-emphasise the above. Also to note that where users flagrantly act in a way which is designed to cause offence or disruption they will just be removed from the forum without any...

Yup :) (Make sure everything's clean/neutralised first, plus you may well have to use hookup wire to connect things up if the traces/pads have died)

Welcome! Have a look under the test label on your PSU :) - I think! I seem to remember the mains crimps on the beeb psu are the same as the master: https://www.waitingforfriday.com/?p=794 10x Blade receptacle 6.3×0.8mm (fully insulated) – http://uk.farnell.com/amp-te-connectivity/2-520184-2/crimp-te...
