Electron + DataCentre

Got hold of my external DataCentre from RetroClinic today ( =D> for his efforts) and decided to have a bash at getting it up and running on my AP5 equipped Electron. Well, I've got some good news :D and some not so good news . First the good news! The DataCentre USB port and RamFS chip seem to ...

I quite liked the ending to Sphere of Destiny, it was unexpected to say the least 8)

Re: Retro Gamer...

Articles on the 8-bit (not just BBC/Acorn) hardware scene today, like some of the stuff going on here: the homebrew IDE interface for the electron, the USB card for the BBC, MMC card interface for the BBC/electron. RG doesn't 'do' hardware, unfortunately. :( Oh, shame that. Guess the clue is in the...

Some articles on the big software houses: Tynesoft - who also did games for other platforms IIRC Superior Software - who are still around and making games Micropower - the biggy from the early days Something about the one hit wonder companies in the early days of the 8-bit scene could be interesting...

Re: ACORN WORLD @ Retro Reunited/12-13 Sep/Hudd'field

(a ridiculous failure of a system that uses VHS videos as game cartridges and has a big red light that you stick to the TV screen!) WTF?! Madness! It's even madder than you think it is (I suspect), it's not some console that takes video cassettes instead of cartridges, oh no, you actually p...

Re: What new hardware would you want ?

Oh dear, just picked-up a PPC640 off ebay for 99p (it was destiny, I looked on ebay and there it was, no bids and 4mins till auction end) #-o

Looks like some horrific Frankenstein style Acorn/BBC 'laptop' may soon be created [-X

Re: What new hardware would you want ?

Something like this would be nice for the BBC :) The BBC might be bit of a tight squeeze as the mobo is a bit large. An Electron would happily fit into that size of case, add a GoMMC or similar and you'd be laughing. You could probably fit a Master Compact into an Amstrad PPC640 case quite well. Mi...

Re: FS: SLOGGER PEGASUS Electron Disk Interfaces *NEW*

My one arrived this morning and is working just fine. :) My old 3.5" PC floppy drive works without any problems (well apart from the fact that the drive is falling to bits  ). Now just have to find out why the old amiga external fdd I plan to use doesn't seem to be working (I suspect it's just...

Re: FS: SLOGGER PEGASUS Electron Disk Interfaces *NEW*

Oooh, that sure does look tempting =P~ and I've a BBC 5.25" drive kicking around as well.

Only trouble is I could really really do with a few extra cartridge slots

Re: MMC card software mods

It is a poor machine, but it would have made more sense if they'd released it a year earlier (as was originally rumoured I think?) or at a lower price (as I think was also rumoured). With the C64 for the same money and the Speccy considerably cheaper, not many would go for the Acorn option, even wi...

There are some screen shots of the development version of Strykers Run III available over at Acorn gaming. http://www.acorn-gaming.org.uk/index.ph ... eviews/SR3

Can't say I think much of the character used :( , looks like he's a would be member of East 17 or something

Nope, and I'd advise you that you're best off not selling them. I suspect a fair few software houses responsible for old 8-bit (and 16/32 bit) games turn a blind eye to hobbyist sites such as this giving away software images (or don't care as it's for free). After all the people down loading the ima...

I took a chance and went out and bought a 120W variable voltage laptop PSU from Maplin and it works just fine at both 20 and 22V (no 21V option).

The electron, Plus 3 and Plus 1 all seem to be working ok with this PSU even though it's a DC PSU.

Re: Bad Luck Electron

The industrys nuts, There is such a short window to get the product to market with the Electron at least it seemed like bad luck they couldn't get them to market. Wasn't the main problem Ferranti delaying the ULA? Customers would just buy a Spectrum or an Amstrad instead. I seem to remember that th...

What was Basicode 2 ? Not familiar with it. and more curiously why does it have the Radio 1 logo on it ? Not seen that logo for a while :) I guess R1 must of run a computer programming course at some point during the 80's  as part of their public service remit. It kind of rings a bell but no...
