Re: Solidisk RTC
Do you specifically want a Solidisk RTC board or are you just assuming that’s the only way to a Beeb RTC? In case it’s just the generic RTC capability you’re after, you can add one very cheaply using I2C. Clicky here if interested.....

That should be fine as long as BASIC is ‘off’ and not being used. Can you temporarily load the data somewhere else, say &0900-&0AFF or higher up in memory (but below screen mem) to see if it is a location problem?

Re: Following in the footsteps...
Sounds fascinating Stephen, keep us posted! :) One minor point, I have subsequently discovered that because the MOS obviously shares the same system 6522 lines as I have used for my I2C, if you mess with keyboard during certain I2C accesses, you can corrupt a transfer. I can’t ‘break’ anything as su...

Re: Ribbon Cables
I guessed so because I’ve had that particular feature forever - back in the day and now, it’s still an essential on all my floppy drive pairs. It’s particularly useful for 35/525 combo units because I tend to use 35s for everyday stuff due to their robustness but still have lots of bootable 525s kno...

And for an extra twist, could you break out the line which selects which one would be drive 0 and which one would be drive 1 ? I could be wrong, but I took that as a metaphorical ‘twist’ and that 8271 just wants those wires broken-out to facilitate the fitting of an id changeover switch to allow ei...

Re: loading UEF images into the Elk with UPCFS on EUP
Well done Roland (and Dave)! That tweak could well have fixed other games - Dave mentioned Freefall for example (did you try that too btw Roland?), but unless one individually and ‘scientifically’ failure-analyses every non-working game, extending the ‘working’ list of games can just amount to a bul...

Looks fine to me Roland but I’ll let Dave (Hoglet) comment and have the say because he’s offered to do some more testing and tweaking so I’m best not to interfere!

Re: loading UEF images into the Elk with UPCFS on EUP
Anyway, assuming it was to be unconditional, in the routine ‘ starload ’ as attached, prior to the highlighted line where the Block Flag Byte is being tested for last block, the bottom bit of this same byte ($03CA) should be tested and if set, i.e. file ‘Locked’, make $0258 = 3 as Dave suggests. 032...

Re: loading UEF images into the Elk with UPCFS on EUP
So, the incompatibility here should be easy to fix in UPCFS - it just needs to test the locked block flag, and set &0258 to &03 accordingly. I can see how/where to do it in the code - unless a lengthy test was carried out to specifically detect Arcadians being loaded, this change would set ...

Re: Programming a delay in assembly language

I also explicitly pointed out that for different processor clock speeds, you can var...

Re: Programming a delay in assembly language
No worries - you could also add a vdelay label at the STA wcount [/i] and then for variable delays, just perform LDA #nn , JSR vdelay in your main code to get variable delays. So if 6 is about right for 1 second, doing LDA #60 , JSR vdelay for example would give you a 10s delay if you wanted such fl...

Re: Programming a delay in assembly language
From some of my code, I /think/ the lower delay routine of 256 X by 256 Y is about 0.16s at 2MHz so at bigwait , setting wcount to 6 as shown would give about a second but you can easily have a play with that specific number and see what you get. Note that as it stands, it trashes all the registers ...

Looks perhaps more like a scope threshold triggering issue? I would have expected a simple varying frequency trace to be stable and fixed at the left but slightly 'stretching' and 'contracting' on the right?

I realise you were hoping for the quick answer but I was thinking perhaps you could buzz out the pin connections knowing the interface chip and Ian has posted the pinout. If no answer is forthcoming, you can perhaps do that.

If you haven't already done so, are you able to try just one of the 3.5" drives connected to the Beeb with no other drive on the cable? I'm just wondering about possible termination issues. (You will need to stay with DFS 1.22 though.)
