Re: Hampshire/South ABUG Giveway
Thank-you and yes, those are the ones I can use. Sincerely though, if you don’t want to post (because I do recognise that it amounts to significant hassle) then no worries at all, I will happily leave them for another taker. However, if you feel that you can take an anti-histamine and bear to confro...

I try it on a regular basis but despite greasing up, I keep getting stuck in the large letter test slot.

Hi Duncan - I'm by no means an expert here but do those iMac memory modules match up to something like "DDR3 10600S PC3-10600S 1333MHZ 204 Pin SODIMM" ? I ask because I have MSI netbooks that use the latter spec modules (2Gb max) so I 'd take yours if compatible for spares/upgrading future...

Re: Setting up dual drive from single drive and gotek (level of complexity?)
Yes the Beeb will power twin drives and yes, DFS will support two physical drives (as four logical drives). On the power supply, if you could find a drive with a built-in PSU and you can cope with the slightly larger case and one more mains plug, you will be reducing the strain on your Beeb PSU but ...

Re: Wires? Pah.....
Hi Tom - I’m just a Beeb hobbyist and not from a software or IT background so things like licensing, open/closed source, git(?) etc are all just complete jabberwocky to me. The reason I haven’t ever gone out of my way to make the sources for UPURS public is simply because I didn’t want to encourage ...

Re: Deploy-and-run from PC to Beeb?
I’m afraid I can’t help with UPURSFS because it wasn't my 'thing', (I’m only responsible for the original UPURS system), so I’ll have to leave the expert comment on that to Stephen ( sweh ). My only suggestion though if you continue to struggle would be for you to first confirm that the basic UPURS ...

Re: Should the search box be selected
Ah, thanks for that, Martin! I wasn't able to observe that behaviour on my iPhone, possibly because it's a 6s Plus, which has a larger screen.... In case it matters, mine is actually a 6s which is slightly larger than a 6 but I think still smaller than your Plus. Anyway, not that I know anything ab...

Re: Should the search box be selected
I thought the same as tricky when I first tried it (iPhone 6 IOS) but on swivelling to landscape, it is there and it becomes visible. In portrait, you can see the search button by dragging the screen down but you can’t actually use it because it just springs back up out of sight when you release the...

Re: Is an MMC DFS/TAPE hybrid FS with PAGE at &E00 feasible? (was DFS)
Somewhere , as a proof-of-concept project, I have a patched version of Beeb OS1.2 where I modified the CFS code such that whenever a byte was required, instead of it coming from tape via the serial chip, I served it up via the UPURS (viz UPCFS>UEF) engine. It only supported CFS reading and had a co...

Re: Is an MMC DFS/TAPE hybrid FS with PAGE at &E00 feasible? (was DFS)
Copy protection may well be a factor but only if the alternative loader doesn't 100% replicate CFS. Because UPCFS was a 'bonus' feature of UPURS where the latter is not a stand-alone FS rom, I had to do extensive vector-stealing and endeavour to hide lots of code ditties in ram holes in the hope tha...

Re: Is an MMC DFS/TAPE hybrid FS with PAGE at &E00 feasible? (was DFS)
The UPURS rom contains exactly this functionality in the form of UPCFS . It loads games etc in UEF format directly from a PC via the UPURS high-speed serial link decoding the UEF chunks and extracting/loading the 'tape' data blocks on the fly. Speed-wise, its not much slower than disc loading with t...

The one in the pic does look to be an unusual form but just checked my AL03 deck (I don’t have a stock PSU either) and it is actually just a standard 3.5mm OD 2-pole audio-style jack.

Re: Bits and bytes
Have a look at the BIT instruction too which is specifically designed for testing individual bits as you require. It’s advantage is that it is non-destructive, only setting status flags and so is excellent for iterative bit-testing of a sequence of bytes..... EF86AF2F-8524-4618-BA4B-B7A3E8EF72AC.jpeg

Without that line, the address will move up in memory each time you type RUN in a given session - that’s why you are seeing it changing all the time.

Re: MC error - and don't know why
What Dave said and, you could have line 110 as RTS and not bother with lines 140 and 150 - your message data can live after the end of the code, it doesn’t have to be embedded within the executable instructions. On your comments query, ‘;’ isn’t valid to precede a comment if there is no code on a pr...
