Re: can anyone remember this hangman game called wilt?

Didn't see this the first time around... thought "Wilt" sounded familiar, so I just checked and found the A4 folder containing this disk.

Will image it ASAP, subject to it being readable! (although Longman disks are usually reliable) :)

Re: Grasshopper by Newman software

I imaged this disk in July 2015, within a box of many others on loan from Arcadian... I think it would've been one that I returned.
It contains sample spreadsheets for Grasshopper (presumably!)

Re: Emulation Request

TLDR version: When I created the first FSD, of EXILE, way back in November 2012, I was able to "piggy back" on the SSD code of BeebEM because all that was missing, or rather implemented with automatic values added, was the ability to specify the sector IDs. Having the extra 4 bytes of the sector hea...

Re: Primary Software Set 4

From track &16 onwards - part way into SLIDERS, then all of TRAINS, CUBES and SHUNT (Shape Hunt) are filled with E5, ie. formatted sectors containing no program data!
There's no further "hidden" data, &DC00 - &31FFF are all &E5 too...

Re: ADFS Format

This might be beyond the scope of your document, but I am struggling to understand how a disc works and how much of that is replicated in a disc image. Somewhat related to your query, here are the details from a single track from the Tynesoft game "The Big KO"... using Acorn 1770 DFS, I read the en...

Re: Emulation Request

Regarding the HFE standard, on the HxC floppy emulator, what happens when either / both Kryoflux streams and SSD images are converted for use? Does the converter extrapolate what should be there in the SSD and create additional information of what it thinks is correct, or is some of the data in a Kr...

Re: Emulation Request

Again, any "standard" is down to interpretation... FSD contains all the required data to represent all the possible protection schemes that i've encountered, and no superfluous information such as the numerious gaps, etc. Purely from a non programming point of view, I've never understood why it's "b...

Re: Emulation Request

I appreciate what you're saying regarding the file format being able to represent "all possible floppy disks" but i could frivolously complain that my TV can't prepare me any toast, or that I can't watch TV programmes on my toaster... so long as "a thing" is good for it's given purpose, then it shou...

Re: Emulation Request

FSD is similar in the way that SSD can only store single sided disks. How are disk images primarily created in the HFE format, and are there any protected disks available in this format? Also, I tend to think there are two separate issues being mentioned. HFE allows disk images to appear as real dis...

Re: Emulation Request

1) i've never come across any BBC single density protection that has ID CRC error and a sector with a bad CRC needn't be deleted data (unless i misunderstood) 2) E0-E2 are necessary to represent Tynesoft titles which are formatted as 0x100 but reported as 0x200 to make the sector 1770 compatible. I'...

Re: The Taroda Scheme (BBC version)

Btw, I assume the files O.B and O.Boot can be deleted? And an instructions program added? Does it matter which precise sectors the files occupy? :?: Yes, O.B and O.Boot are the original, unmodified versions of the files, they can safely be deleted. I'm fairly certain that R/H1 can be removed too......

Re: The Taroda Scheme (BBC version)

Thanks, BillC! Just a minor note: the .SSD won't work if you've got the PRES Advanced BASIC Editor ROMs installed because they intercept the command *B, which clashes with the name of a machine-code file on the .SSD which seems to be run with the same command, *B! :!: I always find it's best practi...

The Taroda Scheme (started a few days ago) The game wouldn't work with my Watford Electronics DFS 1.30 - when "B" is executed, "Bad sum - file disconnected" is displayed... works with WE DFS 1.44 though! Disk was formatted 80 track, reported as 40 track with the last 40 tracks unformatted. Catalogue...

Re: Holy Horrors

Hi I've got the original "Holy Horrors" tape, but couldn't get a decent enough WAV from it to create a decent CSW (stops at &13 from &1D of the data), and couldn't create a decent UEF, ie. to the same place, from the CSW - it completely baulks at representing *any* of the data. So I modified the GAM...
