Re: A&B Computing/The Micro User Archive

Thanks, I'd already found those a while back, most of the Acorn Computing magazines are still missing.

Re: A&B Computing/The Micro User Archive

I'm still hunting around the net / ebay for A&B Computing and Acorn Computing (formerly Micro User) magazines.
Looks as though my only option is to purchase them on DVD unless anyone's found a site or has any they could share..

Stone the crows

Not sure if this is the right forum section but does anyone remember a little ditty doing the rounds in the 1980s called Stone the Crows ? It was a 20 second animated loop with 2 crows, one playing the piano and the other playing double bass. It was quite a catchy little tune and I wonder who wrote ...

I don't suppose on your brief play you managed to work out how to help the Tin Man who has a rusty nail stuck in his jaw ?

I've nearly completed the game now, I'm on the last puzzle but I still have a few unused objects which may or may not be red herrings.

Re: What's Eyeore's by Magus

Thanks ! I've played this game for weeks and never knew you could get bread from the breadfruit tree ! I forgot the golden rule of adventuring which is to examine everything and get everything even if it just seems to be an innocuous bit of the room description. Thanks again - I shall go on now and ...

What's Eyeore's by Magus

I've nearly completed this game but have a couple of puzzles left to solve. Does anyone out there know how to get the nail out of the tin man's neck or know what to feed Fifi the Gorilla ? I know I'm clutching at straws here because although it's a good game I don't think many people have played it....

best rom / emulator for monitoring program execution

I wonder if anyone can help with this ? I'm struggling with a text adventure, What's Eeyores by Magus, and wondered if there was a ROM or something built into an emulator whereby I could follow the assembler instructions live as the program runs. This would help me to see which subroutines are calle...

A&B Computing adventure column

Does anyone know if A&B Computing magazine featured an adventures column ? I've now read through the Micro User and Electron User columns as well as the one-off special issue in Acorn User and wondered if there were any regular articles in other computing magazines. I've tried to find scans of the A...

Heyley Software

I've just discovered a gem of a disc-based text adventure for the BBC called Stranded! by Heyley Software.
Does anyone know if their other games are available anywhere ?
They are: Dreamtime, Pirate's Peril, Rise in Crime, The Taroda Scheme and The Ultimate Prize.

Looks promising. I'll give it a go later on once I've managed to get Captain Blizzard off the ship on "Blood of the Mutineers".

Does it load entirely into memory or is it a disc adventure ?

Here's an update on where I am with this devilish adventure game. Hopefully I'm not spoiling anyone's enjoyment of the game by revealing what I know. I've solved the following puzzles: Soldier - I know the 3 objects you have to give him although I've only managed to obtain 2 of them. The third is ta...

That works great thanks.

Another question I have is, is it possible to dump the entire contents of RAM i.e. 0000 to 7FFF to a text or csv file that I can export to excel and
analyse ?

Beebem debugger help required

Could anyone show me please how to use the debugger to change the value of a memory address
eg I want to change the contents of memory address &1900 to 4F while a program is running.
I've tried to use the help in debugger to use poke but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Re: Locks of Luck by Magus

For a list of commands type *HELP (not sure if that's all of them though)
.
Also the game says "visible exits are" and "some exits are" so there may be a few hidden ones (I haven't found any yet mind).

Re: Locks of Luck by Magus

Thanks for playing lurkio, I could do with some support as I'm well and truly stuck now. Re: Acorn Computing Magazine (formerly The Micro User)

Thanks for that. I've downloaded the Mad Hatter's guide which looks like being a good read. I really enjoyed his monthly column in The Micro User. I also see there's an excellent tribute website to him by his son (although it's not quite up to date hint,hint....). I've also downloaded the Acorn User...

Does anyone know where I can get pdfs or individual pages from Acorn Computing Magazine ? Re: Locks of Luck by Magus

I took your advice and started playing What's Eeyores and yes it is a bit easier to get started and also quite atmospheric and witty. I've solved a few puzzles but then got bogged down. The main problem with this game is that you need to examine things which don't appear in the text description, you...

You're right, it does sound like a stinker, particularly if there's no logic to the puzzles. It would be great if a few of us could play it though and maybe between us we'll get somewhere. I'll get a memory dump first and hopefully get a list of commands. I think I'll also play Rick Hanson from Robi...

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the third in Peter Killworth's Doom trilogy ? I have Countdown to Doom, Return to Doom (on original bbc disk and dsd) but I can't get hold of Last Days of Doom anywhere. Looking at Topologika's site it would appear they only do educational stuff these days.

It must be 20 years since I last played it but I think you have to take everything (as I recall take all tells you there's no allosaurus here).

Good luck with the rest of the game, it's in my top 3 all time greats!

Save state

As far as I'm aware, the only emulator offering a save state facility is "Beebem". Maybe they were using this.
As Tom Seddon seems to be one of the very few current beeb emulator programmers and I'm a big fan of his emulator, might I suggest he includes this facility in his next upgrade (please)?

It was supposed to be the first part of Robico's "Realm of Chaos" trilogy according to www.if-legends.org but its unlikely the other two parts were ever released. I remember playing the game back in the early 1990s under a different label on my old beeb and I managed to get as far as the endgame. As...
