Re: BBC B+ thinks it's a BBC A?

Yes. Your program occupies the space between PAGE & LOMEM. The more lines of code you write, the bigger LOMEM will become. The memory space between LOMEM and &8000 is what is available for screen modes. So, as you increase your code, the less space you will have available for screen memory, and ther...

Four completely put together now. Two of those misbehaving. One, I think I know why, the other is going to take a bit longer as I've exhausted the obvious... d. A bit frustrating when that happens, but huge credit to you for taking on this task with so many very tricky SMD components to install. I ...

Re: BBC B+ 128K: Fault after warming up.

No. Pin 3 on IC49 which is RD5 is only connected to Din / Dout of IC65.

However, I think I understand the point you were trying to make. IC49 pins 2 thru 9 do not translate directly to RD0 thru RD7 as is stated in that other topic. Pin assignment for IC49 is as you have stated.

Re: BBC B+ 128K: Fault after warming up.

IC49 is not a RAM chip. It's a 74LS245 tri-state octal bus transceiver. This transceiver buffers the 8 data lines, and each one of these data lines connects to the data in / out pins of each dram chip (IC55,56,60,61,64,65,66,67).

Re: BBC B+ thinks it's a BBC A?

That is weird. LOMEM at &1902 should allow all modes to be selected. VDU22,0 is setting screen to mode 0. VDU22,3 would set it to mode 3. As I understand it, changing screen mode in this way is not really recommended, since it doesn't adjust the LOMEM value, whereas MODEx does change LOMEM. Someone ...

Re: My New BBC Master

I use a desoldering pump to remove the worst of the solder, then give the underside of the PCB a blast with a hot air gun whilst at the same time using a small flat blade screwdriver gently lever the chip on the other side of the PCB. Once the solder is sufficiently melted, and the chip starts to wo...

Re: BBC B+ thinks it's a BBC A?

Can you PRINT ~LOMEM and PRINT ~PAGE ? If LOMEM > &4000 (and < &5800) then you will get the bad MODE error for modes 0..3, but we'd need to work out why LOMEM is being set so high. If LOMEM is in the above range, then set it to &3000 (LOMEM=&3000) and try changing modes again. Also, what happens if ...

Hi Ken I've got the board up and running :D One thing I've noticed is there are now two versions of the SRAM facilities. One in IBOS and the other in 1770 DFS 2.26. Is there a copy of 2.26 with the SRAM tools removed? Marcus I'm glad to hear you've got it up and running. Hopefully it was a fairly e...

I can't believe I missed this first time round! I'd definitely be interested in at least a couple for the BBC B (is there a difference between the BBC B and BBC B+ kits?). Re: Looking for advice on a BBC Micro, is it worth fixing?

Sometimes it is possible to prove RAM is faulty by just piggy backing new RAM on top of suspect RAM. Doesn't always work, but worth a try. Also, faulty RAM chip often runs hotter than operational RAM chips. Check for temperature differences.
