Re: math

I've understood that bit I was stuck at. Its only a matter of using standard results.

Re: math

r^3 = r^3 +3r^2 +2r -3r^2 -2r
r^3 -r^3 +3r^2 = 3r^2
(r+1)^3 +3r^2 = (r+1)^3 +3r^2
(r+1)^3 +3r^2 = r^3 +3r^2 +3r +3r^2
(r+1)^3 -r^3 = 3r^2 +3r +1

Re: math

Where you say "summing and collapsing the left hand side" how did you get (n+1)^3 - 1 ?

Re: math

Its a standard result. I'm not sure if you can see the writing under the scan. The example above from a book also uses a couple of standard results.

I have used a standard result for the sum of a series of r cubed. The question seems to be a peculiar one.

Re: math

A proof by induction isn't the required proof. The attached scan shows the kind of thing needed. It seems to have been a common type of question in A level in the past but maybe not now.

Re: WTD: working Acorn ANF-03 cassette recorder

The needle never moves much while playing a tape. You have to be careful putting the major parts together because a short circuit can be caused quite easily. That could be why you hear a hum.

Have you scanned the "Guide to Input" supplement? It probably came with an issue in volume 1.

I see what you mean. Before that step you enter Examine fuel and it says:
I see Fuel gauge reads open closed full Fuel is made from

That doesn't make sense.

Re: BUCKAROO BANZAI - Gold Collection Version?

The tape at the preservation site would not have any faults in the data. If that tape shows the bug then it must be in the game itself.

I've sent all of Input 13 except the cover pages to Matthew Thomson.

Does Dave Edwards require the "guide" supplement that came sometime in the first volume?

Re: INPUT Magazine Issue 13

I've scanned it but I don't have the cover. It finishes at P412 and also has an index supplement. I also have a "guide to Input" supplement. Do you need it? I will have an internet site tomorrow that I'm uploading it to along with the EU pages.

I'm sending it in 6 parts to Matthew. The pages had fallen out of the middle so it wasn't difficult to scan.

I'll see if I have the pages. What dpi do you want and what email address could I send scans to? Is the format required JPG or PNG and if JPG is it to be slightly compressed or quite a lot?

It would be great for speed on the Electron. Do the sprites have a high level of capabilities? I will probably try it out sometime.
