Re: Removing TurboMMC, installing DFS

I'm beginning to realise I'll be very luck if I happen to have got the right Replay for the right disc interface.

Re: Removing TurboMMC, installing DFS

Is it the 1770 version of Replay, to match the 1770 disc-controller chip in the disc-interface kit that you've bought? (There were two versions of Replay for the Model B: a 1770 version and an 8271 version. (BITD, the 8271 disc-controller chip was more popular in Beebs, but less versatile than the ...

Re: Removing TurboMMC, installing DFS

Yes, that's the right disk interface. If you find yourself needing more drives, just note that it doesn't need to be one that specifically says it's for the BBC, so long as it's been flashed with FlashFloppy (which is open source), but not all sellers are as conscientious as Mark. You can DIY them ...

Re: Removing TurboMMC, installing DFS

Get in touch with Retroclinic and get a 1770 Interface from them. I don't think anyone else is doing them at the moment? Mark always does a better price direct. Once that's done you can gotek-flashfloppy to your heart's content. Thanks. I think I might have bought the right stuff from the right per...

Re: The Quest for the Last Baked Bean

I meant that you should please go ahead and give us spoilers so that we can clearly and unambiguously understand what the bugs are. Right then, SPOILER ALERT : 1) Regardless of whether the PIT is empty, having toffee setting in it, or has hard toffee in it, you can enter it by going down, in which ...

Re: Removing TurboMMC, installing DFS

In this context, a disc interface is the set of ICs (chips) -- not just the DFS ROM -- that need to be installed in a Beeb to enable it to access a physical floppy disc drive. E.g.: That sinking realisation was just dawning on me, and no, my Beeb does not have one. I think I've been lucky with boot...

Re: Removing TurboMMC, installing DFS

Do you actually have a disk interface fitted? I haven't attached the disk drive to it yet, no. Is that the problem? I had presumed that the presence of the DFS ROM just meant it could access a disk drive if and when somebody wanted to. I have a feeling I've been silly. Should I connect a drive and ...

Re: The Quest for the Last Baked Bean

RE this particular game, I should make it clear that my warning about being able to get right to the end and then not be able to finish because of what you did near the start, is certainly not a bug. So, if we're talking about fixing bugs -- which I think is a good idea -- then it would be helpful ...

Removing TurboMMC, installing DFS

Hello, I bought a BBC B that came with a TurboMMC system installed, which may or may not be relevant to why I'm struggling to get a DFS ROM working. I'm trying to remove the TurboMMC system first, to get a clean and simple DFS system in its place. When I opened up the BBC, it had the usual(?) ROMs i...

It's actually one of the more interesting features of the game, and I had no problem at all starting...

Re: The Quest for the Last Baked Bean

Not that I ever played one of the adventure games (no patience!) . . . But, should these BUGS be fixed? This would make the experience a lot better for beginners and maybe encourage them to try more. Nothing worse, I wold imagine, to be stopped by a puzzling bug! Very off-putting . . . I'd be in fa...

Re: The Quest for the Last Baked Bean

I've completed it. Unfortunately the toffee pit bit was buggy, and I've noticed a few bugs/issues. On the whole, however, it was satisfying. And even adventures by better-known authors have bugs, e.g. I've just finished Supergran by Brian Howarth, and there was a horrible bug near the end of that. I...

Re: The Quest for the Last Baked Bean

I realised a while ago that there isn't enough time in one life to play all the text adventure games I want to play, so I've looked up the solution at solutionarchive.com for you!: Haha! I know what you mean. I wasn't aware of solutionarchive.com! I'd just Googled the name of the game and got the i...

The Quest for the Last Baked Bean

Has anyone played this? I stumbled across it on a TurboMMC system. Apparently it was released into the public domain. I was expecting it to be a barrage of rubbish jokes but it's well written IMHO and I've been enjoying it. If anyone has played it and remembers it, could I ask them for some hints (n...

Re: LCD TVs and monitors for use with BBCs

Have either of you experienced the above? If so, does it not bother you, or is there a way to improve these things? Yes I have - I notice that the post you quoted is from 2012 so it was quite a while ago! Initially the Samsung was ok for me - the blurriness was similar to a CRT (and therefore a ben...

Re: LCD TVs and monitors for use with BBCs

If you can find one on fleabay, get hold of a Samsung SyncMaster 510MP TV/Monitor (15", or the 17" version the 710MP). Just aquired my second off there for <£20 including shipping. It's an analogue tuner only so they can be cheap, have a VGA input (1024x768) AND a Scart socket that takes ...
