Solved thanks to all of you! =D>
?&FE40=11 was the crucial thing missing from my code.
I now enable kbd autoscan before writing to the sound chip and then disable kbd autoscan afterwards.

Re: Noob question about sound on Beeb

Quick reply: I believe you have to keep the sound chip write active for at least 8us, which is longer than you've got it active in that code. Yes, I've tried this as well (as taken from MOS 1.20) but doesn't work yet: ; A must be set .write_sound_chip { sei sta &fe41 tya pha ldy #0 sty &fe40 ; soun...

[SOLVED] Noob question about sound on Beeb

In my game for Elk/Beeb I have added sound effects and thought they were working just fine. Well, they work in BeebEm but not in B-em and jsbeeb. They work on the Electron but that was no problem for me. I'm pretty sure someone can fix my issue in 5 seconds while shaking their head in disbelief at m...

Thought I'd try out the new version, at first I wondered "what sound effects" then I realised I had my machine muted as always  hmmm not sure they add much to the game, but that's just my opinion for what it's worth (which is sod all actually as I tend to always have it muted anyway...) Version 0.23 has been added to the original post for those interested.

- rewrote large parts to reclaim precious RAM (and a few cycles)
- added sound effects
- tweaked collision detection for better gameplay

The keyboard issue makes me think there a limited key rollover in B-EM, why it should be so I have no idea, as this is not happening in Linux bar a few specialized applications (like screen f.e.). Nice smooth game you have, excellent! In case could be of interest. The keys don't work on b-em (v2.2) under linux. To be more accurate: the direction keys work but no turbo and pressing return stops the player's sprite so the only possible jump is upward. Thanks for testing! That's interesting and...
