Re: Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

Hi Kazzie,

Yes, I've done all these things, with the same result. I can just about make out that whenever I type a command at the Supervisor prompt, whether it be desktop, help or modules, I get a 'file not found' error. Perhaps I should try reseating the ROMs?

Re: Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

I can see a line appears, but its unreadable. Tried an old lcd screen but got nothing on it, even pressing the power on setting options. So the floppy codes come up as follows: CMOS unreadable PC-style IO world detected Long memory test performed Self-test due to power-on And thats all I got at the ...

Re: Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

To clarify, the ribbon from the keyboard did get a clean. I have no reliable video so I was able to see that the supervisor prompt was responding to key presses in some manner, but no details unfortunately. I don't know any more at this point.

Re: Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

I dis clean the keyboard connector. I'm getting floppy led activity when switched on, but I don't have a reliable connection to a screen (RF is very shaky) and I know its going to supervisor and will not get to desktop. I need to get a connection to a screen but would the floppy codes help?

Re: Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

Wow, that sounds like an interesting option! But I'd be scared about putting it in the dishwasher - what about the PSU parts? AFIUI, they are pretty solidly attached to the mobo. Would they be ok going through the dishwasher? Would the Adelaide board need to be taken off? I really don't know enough ...

Thanks. Do the ROMs just unplug? I will look at the drawings, but I am worried that as a novice I'll have no idea what I'm looking at.

Yeah, it doesn't look great. Not really knowing what I'm looking at, so I plan to clean it as best I can and hopefully someone who knows what they are doing will be willing to help if it needs repairs.

Re: Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

Ok, so if I'm to attempt the cleanup myself tomorrow, I figure I need to do the following: Get a small paintbrush A solution of weak acid, either lemon juice or a 50/50 vinegar water mix A soft toothbrush Do I dry clean the board first to remove the gunk, or do I use the solution to get rid of it? i...

Re: Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

I'd love to come to Cambridge and take you up on the kind offer, but from North Yorks it's a bit of a trek, and family and small children makes it impossible I'm afraid. But I do appreciate the offer to help! I may get in touch with someone a bit closer to home who may be willing to assist (he runs ...

Re: Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

Thanks Andy. I've never done anything like this before. Is there a recommended set of tools? A specific type of brush etc? And as for checking components/soldering new batteries, I have never done anything like that and therefore, have no equipment! So after the cleanup I guess I'll need to rope in ...

Acquired an A3010 today - help needed

Hi all, I struck a deal for an A3010 on Ebay. paid £175 as all the ones I saw were going for 200 plus, many untested etc. As was this one. Got it home and opened it up: I have an Adelaide! Wasnt expecting that. Battery has leaked. I have removed it, but I would appreciate any advice on the corrosion...

Wanted: Archimedes class Acorn

Hiya, I'm posting this in the hope that someone has a RISC OS 3 Acorn, ideally an A3010 but I'd consider other models - this was my home computer from 92 to around 96 and I would love to relive some fond memories. Trouble is, I can only realistically afford £100-£150, and eBay isn't offering up anyt...

Re: One more working Electron returns to the flock

I'm using a SCART adapter for my Elk on a modern flat screen so if your has the port for SCART it will work just fine. I'm using an older 24" blaupunkt in the office but there is a connect on my recent Samsung in the living room, and I expect that would work just as well. if it has the connecto...

Re: Acorn Newbie

welcome to this lovely forum! as danielj mentioned above, it could be RAM as the likely culprit - he correctly diagnosed this as the problem with my Elk, which was then fixed by Mark at Retroclinic, who is also a member here. so you're in good hands!

Re: Electron MicroSD Card Interfaces (SOLD OUT)

Well, I love how my Mk2 looks :D I had a scary moment when I was plugging the board into my Elk, it is quite tough to push it onto the connector, but I put that down more to my inexperience with the machine than anything else. It works fantastically well for me, been playing on Chuckie Egg with my s...
