Thanks for the invite, I joined for a bit but not really got into the swing of it.
Any easy tests I can run to make sure my hardware is working as it should be? Just generally, not necessarily for the disk interface.

Re: Acquired my first Model B today
Stu - currently a number of Beeb experts (I don't include myself in this description!) are online in a virtual user group. If you're free, we could invite you? Hiya, thanks for the invite - how long are you going to be on for? I have the kids to put to bed but may be available in around 30 minutes?

Re: Acquired my first Model B today
So, I have recapped my PSU successfully today. It's the first time I've attempted anything like it so I was flying by the seat of my pants! I watched a LOT of YouTube videos about it and I'm happy to say it was a relatively straightforward job in the end. I have also received today IFEL's 1772 disc ...

So, while I'm waiting for the cap kit to come, what upgrades would you good people suggest? Whoa! That's a deep sea you'll diving into   To give you an indication (hold that wallet tight mind) go here  So much information exists, it's hard to work out where to point you to. And another addition to my Beeb/Elk setup:
It comes with the necessary cables to connect up, and I'm assured it's working (not tested it yet). It's in really nice condition - even the foam in the battery compartment is still springy!

Re: Acquired my first Model B today
Thanks for the info so far, some useful stuff here. During the brief period I had the machine on (I have a RGB to SCART lead I use with my Electrons), I noticed no screen artifacts so unless it appears after regular use, I'll leave it alone. Thanks for the heads up on this potential issue though! I ...

Re: Acquired my first Model B today
Thanks, that's definitely an option
A quick question, the power cables to the motherboard spade connectors seem really secure, is it safe to just tug on these cables to disconnect? I'm slightly worried about pulling the spade connectors off the board!

Acquired my first Model B today
Hiya, As noted in the 'Today I received...' thread, I received my first Model B machine today. It was in good cosmetic nick for what I paid for it, and I was hopeful of something that would require minimal work to get running. As promised, here are pictures of the insides: 20200417_144657.jpg 202004...

Re: Today I received.....
Let us know if you find any goodies inside. Do you know if the PSU has been capped, if not that should be on your to do list :-) I'll post a new thread in the hardware section once I've had a look inside. I've ordered the capacitor kit from RetroClinic as a preemptive, as I'm pretty sure it won't h...

Re: Elk games that allow joystick use?
Hiya, So, a couple of things came together today. First, my Pegasus 400 interface arrived. So, to test that it works (and it does, thank you Dave Hitchins!!), I hooked up my Gotek with my home made power cable, and downloaded davidb's Jungle Journey disc version to test. Great game, David, and thank...

Re: Elk games that allow joystick use?
If you have a way to load a UEF file, you could try Jungle Journey to see if the joystick works with that. Thanks - sorry for the dumb question, but how would I get the file into the Electron? I understand there's a web based program you can use. I have the Mic/Ear/Rem cable for my tape player, can...

Elk games that allow joystick use?
Hi all, I'm a real novice when it comes to using my Elk. I recently got a Voltmace Delta joystick which plugs into the analogue port on the Plus 1. I have loaded both Arcadians and Hopper (from tape), and can't get the joystick working properly on either game. On both the fire button works but direc...

Gotek for Electron - external power?
Hiya, I'm getting a disk interface for my Electron with Plus1. I have a Gotek I use with my A3010, and I reckon I can use it with the Elk too. However, I'm not sure but I think I'll need external power to the Gotek as there won't be a connector on the interface (Peg400). I expect this means I need t...

Re: Another Elk lives
Great info Dave, and thanks for the detailed reply - like Mark's reply above, more info than anyone could ask for! If/when I do upgrade, I'll get a better PSU to power everything. Ideally, I'd like to get hold of a Plus 1 for a reasonable price, and then look at the options from there. Dave, do you ...

Re: Another Elk lives
Dave, that leads me to a question - I'm running my Elk/s with a 12V DC 1A power brick. If I were to get a Plus 1, can I still use this power brick or will I need to get an 18VAC one?daveejhitchins wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 10:15 am

Another Elk lives
Hi all, With a lot of time on my hands the last few days (like most of us), I have been fiddling with a dead Electron I acquired as part of a package I got off eBay, mainly to get a working cassette deck and some tape games etc. I already have a working Elk that Mark (RetroClinic) fettled for me, so...
