Re: BBC Master + Roms advice

I can't help looking for more things to do with my Master, it's an amazingly versatile machine. I'm still pretty amazed at the port of Stunt Car Racer. Yeah. I was pretty much blown away by that too! Try Tricky’s Frogger. It’s easily the best version made for the beeb. Also, there’s lots of fun to ...

Re: Gotek controller upgrade?

I agree with Daniel. My beeb has an 8271 and i’m running FF2.7a without issue, the same Gotek also works fine on my Master’s 1770 running DFS or ADFS. I did have issues initially with the 8271 but as long as you add index-suppression=no to your FF.CFG it works fine. The only motivation I would have ...

Re: RISC OS relicensed: now under Apache 2.0!

Porting the OS to other platforms would widen the audience significantly. Really? RISC OS has never run on so many platforms, nor has it been cheaper. I would suggest that polishing the existing ports would help more. And that includes utilising all of the hardware in each platform. In the Pi, we h...

Re: Quest to become ELITE!

So Happy I found this thread!! I played BBC Elite for what seemed like 3 years as a kid but only made Deadly. I then stopped, and moved on to the Amiga, where I made Elite, then the PC (Elite Plus) again, making Elite, and have recently restarted Elite: Dangerous, so I'm nowhere on that one. Not get...

Re: BBC Master + Roms advice

Hey there! Welcome to the forum. The Master is a lovely machine. I've only had mine a few weeks having just been a Model B owner for many years. The MultiOS is what you need to run OS1.20, and in fact it comes with a few games preloaded, which is cool. but its worth getting just for the Y2K and DFS ...

Re: Beeb Power Supply Issue

1N4001 (in fact 1N4001 through to 1N4007) are silicon rectifier diodes. They work fine in mains frequency applications, but are not very fast. 1N5819 diodes are fast, low voltage Schottky diodes. As such they are better suited to use in the output sections of switch mode power supply units. If you ...

Re: Beeb Power Supply Issue

You may want to replace C17 (2200uF 16V) as well, as this is the main smoothing capacitor for the +5V rail. I recommend a low ESR 105 o C type. [Although a normal electrolytic will work fine, low ESR types did not exist when these PSU were made...] Also while there, you may as well replace that las...

I found another one the other day called MAX (the beebug master rom reminded me of it) it provides a control panel (think of the control panel program on the Master Welcome disk) but it's AMX styled and uses the mouse. The Master ROM that I have is a PALPROM device that sits in a carrier board, and was published by Beebbugsoft. I had a problem with mine after using the Gotek zip for Tricky's menu. when I removed the usb stick with the menu and STH contents, and put my usual one in, I found that although the beeb thought it was writing to the images, it wasn't. I had a bad episode cleaning a mouldy disk with a cotton bud an IPA. it rendered the disk unusable. you have to be very gentle.
