This is probably the only 8 bit computer that have a true full doom port running.

It's quite expensive for only an ide interface but i don't whan't to miss out on it and have to live a floppy only life.

From the schematic it look like is a protection diode, will start conducting current at certain threshold and shortening to ground.
Maybe this was the reason is so hot, by removing it this could let the current pass and fry something else ?.
