At least I know I wasn't missing anything obvious. Hopefully it isn't too much work for fuzzel to build - playing on Beebem and it looks great, but Beemem, well it an't no Beeb
This might be a daft question, but is there a way to control which SWRAM banks are used? I bought a ROM/RAM board for this (well, I wanted one anyway, but this is what pushed me to commit) - it's one of Steve Picton's and very nice too. But, it interleaves the ROM and RAM configuration, so slots 0 +...
Chris, what were the issues you were having in getting it loading initially? Just wondering if they were the same as mine - tape slow down etc. Still haven't had time to look into sorting the tape deck out - a work project in a different time zone is messing my schedule up so I haven't had big block...
The shimmering appears more pronounced on mode 0 than mode 7 although both have it. Once the monitor has been on a while it's almost unnoticeable on mode 7 (almost, but just very feint if you look from a close range), but still there on mode 0 although, again, less so than when just powered uo. Than...
Simple solutions are always the best :-) There is not much to go on that's printed but there is a hand-written label that states either "1441 HIRES CIV" or "1441 H/RES CIV" depending on how you read it. I suspect the 1441 is the answer I was after so it does appear to be a 895 ve...
It maybe a daft question, but you mean the text displayed as opposed to the overall screen colour when off? If so, I don't think so. I'm trying to righ up a second Beeb so I can have both monitors on side-by-side as I wouldn't rely on my memory in the time it takes to change a cable! Also, a Google ...
Hi all, I while ago I picked up a Microvitec monitor but didn't get a chance to play with it as my Cub 653 (MS4 variety) has just come back from being recapped and looked glorious (an still does)! I'm now looking at the other Cub in more detail and I'm not actually sure what it is. I though it was a...
Chris, I wouldn't know specifically where to check, other than STH and bbcmirco.co.uk. I have the single-loader version so would be able to add it to a collection - once I figure out what is wrong with my ANF03 cassette deck. It's (for me) getting more curious as there seems to be very little info o...
Just to add another difference: on the version of Defender with a single loader, once the main game loads it seems to immediately start a game; on the two loader version, you have to press enter.
I haven't been able to find much out on this other than Planetoid is the renamed version of Defender after Atarisoft got the hump. But, am I right in thinking there are two versions of Defender: one with a single game loader (length 0A 0A08) and one, like Planetoid, with two loaders (length 04 0500 ...
The replacement tape belt for the ANF03 arrived today from Dataserve Retro and has been fitted but I'm now having an issue where nothing plays! Having a look at the rollers, it seems that the belt keep slipping out of the groove on the large black roller and rides on the lip of the roller. Having a ...
Apologies in advance if I've put this in the wrong place - it was a 50-50 between here (as it might be hardware) and one of the software sections. A wee while ago I went through all my Acornsoft tape titles and sorted out those that load. Given that fact that I've collected them from various sources...
Hi, Thanks for answering - it really was beginning to bug me as they both seems to work. As for searching - I tend to use Google as the main search - a habit I picked up when dealing with one of our vendors who have a lousy search engine. I did try the *. search engine too, but admittedly for less t...
Hi, Apologies in advance if this has been asked/answered somewhere - I've spent the better part of an hour Googling and looking around and so that might say more about my search skills than anything! On a Model B, I'm used to the dual tone beep-beep when you turn it on and anything else spells troub...
Hi everyone, I'm looking at replacing the fixed IDC connector on the 6502 board with an IDC box header (the type which has the latch on one side) so I can then use a standard 40-way IDC cable. However, as I've been trying different things in between work commitments, I've manage to lose/forget the c...
Inside the second processor the connector is attached to the board - so either it has to be desoldered or the IDC cable extracted from the connector and a new one inserted. It's not a straight swap on this unit I'm afraid.
Yes, I have had a look inside and the IDC connector is soldered to the board, so complicates replaces a little bit - I'm assuming that this is the translation connector you referred to? As for additional length, that makes sense, but even an extra 10cm would be really hand, if possible. Based upon w...
Ah yes, I remember them but alas I do not have any to hand. Before I go off an buy one however, from the link you provided it seems to suggest that I would have to replace the IDC connector on the second processor board? I am I reading that wrong - can I simply use a normal 40 IDC cable with no mods...
Hi, I've just gone to try these suggestions and have noticed that there is a small break in one of the cable making up the 40-way IDC cable - it's one of the outer tracks. Can anyone recommend a source of a new cable? I could try making one up but I'm not wonderfully adept at these things. If there ...
Hi everyone, A bit on a Bank Holiday conundrum for you! I have finally found some time to set up the 6502 second processor I recently received from eBay, but seem to be having issues. Currently I have the ROM sockets set up as follows: <OS>, <DNFS>, blank, blank, <BASIC>. I'm pretty sure the DNFS RO...
Thanks everyone - I'll drop Mark an email to see if he can help.
As for loading off disk, that makes sense but right now I'm looking for a single disk drive as my unit has packed up. So until I find one of those, I'll settle on the chip version. At least it'll get me up-and-running.
Hi, Yes, the prices are a bit high, but in the absence of anything else - assuming they actually have them. Whilst the idea of buying a EPROM programmer is appealing (not least 'cos I might actually get COMAL that way and complete my childhood setup!), I was hoping to keep things original if possibl...
I recently picked up a 6502 second processor off eBay, but it doesn't have the DNFS or Hi-Basic ROMs. I have found CJE has the Hi-BASIC one, but does anyone have a spare DNFS one that I can buy. If you do have Hi-BASIC then might be interested in that too - keeps shipping simple.
No problem - right now I’m in the middle of building a log cabin so all my attention is on that. But I will then actually have a place to permanently setup the Beeb, so happy to wait. It’ll just be good to know whether he’s willing out not so I can add it to my options.
Thanks for the info and sounds like he might be a good place to start. Do you have an email address for him? I’m hoping he would be happy for me to ship it - assuming that he’d be intested.
Would have sent a PM, but that feature is still disbaled
Ah, thanks. So, there is hope :-) I guess the question then is: repairable by someone of average competence (me!) or by a specialist? As Microvitec no longer do repairs themselves (at least according to their web site), is there someone who repairs Cub monitors that anyone here could recommend? Othe...
