A3010 CMOS issue after battery replacement

Afternoon all I replaced the original CMOS battery on an A3010 I aquired recently with two Eneloop's in an AA battery holder. I'm getting 2.6v when measured from the batteries / terminals but when power is off for more than five minutes then it boots to a black / dark grey screen with no POST just a...

Thanks for this. It's a bit fuzzy (or it's my eyes) but it's definitely better than nothing!

A3000 ROM schematic

Does anyone know where I can find the schematic for the A3000 ROMs? I'm buzzing out the traces after a bit of battery damage knackered the sockets and I assumed that pin 1 would trace out to pin 1 on ROM 2/3/4 and pin 2 and so on. Not quite the case futher in so just want something to cross off agai...

Re: A3000 IC3 chip

Thanks Daniel, I read it was a date code but wasn't sure if it made a difference to it's function. Does it go off?

A3000 IC3 chip

Doing a repair on an A3000 and I need to replace IC3 which is a Fairchild Semi DM7438N. Not because this chip was hit by battery acid but I accidentally chopped it while I was desoldering the affected ROM sockets and IC4/IC5 (maybe it's the lead [-o< ) Anyway in the process of buying a new one and s...

!Boot not booting

I'm trying to set up my new hard disc on my 3020. I've copied Uniboot across to the root directory of the hard disc and used *OPT 4,2 (after doing *drive 4 or I get Drive Empty error) but I can't seem to get !Boot to run. I'm trying to get NewLook to boot on startup but unless I go into the Choices/...

A3020 gaming

When I try to run games on my NEC Multisync monitor I find that games are letterboxed vertically and only take up around 1/2 the screen. Is there anyway of running 4:3 full-screen? I'm running the LCDGameModes module in mode 31 which is the only way I can play most games without the monitor syncing ...

Re: Today I received.....

An "untested" BBC Model B Issue 2 with Sideways ROM (+RAM?) Board. Nice 8) . If you want the contents of the EPROM chip with the uncovered window not to decay, it's best to cover the window with either a paper label or black insulation tape. Yeah I noticed that. I'm guessing that whatever is/was on...

Re: Today I received.....

An "untested" BBC Model B Issue 2 with Sideways ROM (+RAM?) Board. New to 8-bit so once I've got time this is my next project. First to check out the ROMs and replace the PSU / caps. Also got an EEPROM programmer with it and a few other unknown pieces

Re: New A3020 owner!

Hold delete on boot? Tried that, that's how I got the errors to display. The RAM doesn't show which is pin 1. Could I have it inserted the wrong way? OKI print on chip is facing left Yup it was wrong way round - OKI print faces right towards IDE connector. The lower dot closest to the pins was the ...

Re: New A3020 owner!

Got the memory this morning, less than 24 hours for delivery. I'd be impressed but I can't get it working :( Installed in all 4 slots and changed the two jumpers to recognise the additional memory (http://www.simtec.co.uk/products/AU4M3020-4000/files/install.pdf) but I get POST errors and then a who...

Re: New A3020 owner!

2mb is standard on the A3020. It's the A3010 that's only 1mb. Those are the right chips for the upgrade, it might well be possible to get them cheaper elsewhere though! (e.g. if you're prepared to wait: https://uk.utsource.net/sch/M514800-80Z ) Found a UK-based supplier for these OKI chips; https:/...

Re: New A3020 owner!

That sticking 1 key is relatively easy to fix if a little scary to do. You will need to disassemble the keyboard and remove the fluff that will be affecting key presses. The connector pads on the plastic membrane for the 1 key may also need cleaning with IPA or a VERY soft pencil eraser. I managed ...

Re: New A3020 owner!

Once I'm done with that I want to upgrade it from stock so I'm looking for a bit of advice; 1) Hard disk. I don't have any 2.5" drives sitting around and wouldn't trust them if I did. Rather than take the gamble on a compatible IDE>CF would a 512MB DOM (Disk on Module) be the best way to go? I see ...

New A3020 owner!

Morning all. Brought a non-working A3020 as a donor machine which I got yesterday only to find out after clearing the CMOS it works almost perfectly so far (apart from a dodgy "1" key) and is physically intact floppy button and all despite Hermes having got hold of it. It's great as I've been after ...

Re: A30x0 keyboard

My 3010 is the version with the battery in the top right hand corner (tiny amount of spillage, removed and cleaned) though the machine spent the last 20 years in my garage with stuff piled on top so I suspect it's made an indentation somehow in the membrane. When I pulled it out and booted to RO it ...
