!Browse CD

Hi all,
Does anyone have a working link to the Acorn !Browse CD? I've just got my ethernet card working on my A5000 and I'm looking for the RO3 Omniclient install files from that CD and other internet software to get full use out of it

TIA

Re: Cleaning-up an A420 keyboard

Nice work! I broke one of the plastic retainer clips (and lost it :x ) while cleaning my holder, they're very fragile. I'd like to know if anyone has a good way of repairing the damage

Welcome Richard!

Looks good to go to me. Just remember to clear the BIOS (hold down Del key on power on) and fingers crossed it goes right to Desktop

In that case, to both Paul's!

Yeah I kind of regretted not using my hot air station considering I'm more comfortable doing this sort of job with it. I will return to it when I get time and tidy the work up at the very least. Need to replace the PSU fan in it too it's pretty loud

(Yet another) A5000 restoration

I picked up an A5000 setup yesterday which knowingly only booted to Supervisor. The battery had been removed and apparently cleaned but other than that it was a truly unknown quantity. The person who I picked it up from did all the usual methods of trying to clear the CMOS so I guessed that this was...

Re: Poorly Master

Yeah they're soldered on. I'll have to get hold of some 40-pin DIL sockets first as I've only got up to 32.

Can anyone recommend a supplier of 6522 VIA's?

Poorly Master

Hi all, I have a poorly Master. Luckily it doesn't seem to be terminal so here goes... On power on the unit gives a continous tone / beep but do get a display from the ROMs (Acorn MOS) but no cursor. The display is offset vertically slightly like the image has an problem syncing. Apart from the Brea...

Electron key switch

Is this just a simple case of replacing the key switch? Does the replacement just slot in or do I need to solder it and / or remove the pins??

I'm not familiar with Electron keyboards (or in fact Elk's themselves)

Re: Today I received.....

Picked up a boxed Master and Cub monitor today locally. Been after either for a while at none-eBay prices and picked up both with boxes and manuals. Master is a bit yellow and needs recap but still... Even got some sealed 5.25" floppies chucked in Once that is done time to upgrade it. Hope to get so...

Re: Today I received.....

I never find any Acorn stuff in the charity shops (nor any retro computer equipment at all, frankly) but I did bag this beauty today for the measily sum of £10 - has to be the bargain of the year, surely?! herman miller aeron chair.jpg I was a bit dusty but in fantastic nick and has cleaned up nice...

Re: Proud new owner of A3020 but with a rough start

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I haven't try formatting on the A3020 so that will be the first thing when I get home. Is there any special option I should use in order to format it in PC / DOS format or is this just another option in the format utility ? Reading in another thread, middle...

Re: A3000 post-battery repair

Fixed the left mouse button issue. There was a connection missing between LK13 and the via right next to it. As it only affected the connection from the mouse pin and not the "alternate" mouse track I simply soldered some kynar between the mouse pin and the alternate pin on the underside of the boar...

RISCOS ROMs

I'm after a set of 4 RISCOS ROMS for my A3000 as it doesn't boot at all and want to swap them out (battery damage maybe). Apart from the dubious legality here, is it as simple as burning the rom images found online with many a popular emulator to four new 27c eproms and just dropping them in? All I ...

Re: Master spray job

Sorry I know this thread is a couple of months old now but did you or anyone else try vinyl dye?

I have a Micro ready for retrobriting but I'm leaning towards dyeing it instead as it's more permanent / even but unsure of the colour needed (white, bone etc)

Re: A3000 post-battery repair

There is a lot of corrosion in the mouse port that no amount of lemon juice or IPA can flush. I think I might as well replace it, just to confirm it's just a standard 9-pin mini-DIN and these will be a suitable replacement? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Computer-Part-Din-9-Pin-Female-S-video-Adapter-So...

Re: A3000 post-battery repair

Can you change a configuration option and does it stick after a reset / ctrl-break? E.g. *config. baud 4 You can use *status to check. Have you checked that the data lines from the CMOS chip reach the IO chip? Is there conductivity between IC6 pin 5 and IC13 pin 44? (C0) Is there conductivity betwe...

A3000 post-battery repair

Evening all, I aquired a fully boxed A3000 (RO2) some months ago and found a bit of time to take a look at it again this afternoon. It came to me with the usual battery damage which had spread pretty far across the board. Surprisingly after clearing the CMOS it actually still booted to desktop. I cl...

Re: A3010 CMOS issue after battery replacement

I've had problems with Eneloop batteries. They show very high self-discharge at times. I'd check them first. If the CMOS still fails to hold its settings are the correct voltages being applied to the chip when the A3010 is off. I've also noticed that Axxxx machines need to be powered on for at leas...
