Elk disc controllers

There was an Elk Plus 3 available on eBay and the winning bid was £174. There seems to be plenty of interest and willingness to pay for for disc controllers \ drives. To be honest I was interested to bid for it. Is anyone working on building new disc controllers for the Elk?

C language for the Beeb or Elk.

Has there ever been C language version available for the Beeb or Elk? I used to have Fortran and I have seen Pascal, but not C.

Would have like to have seen a version of Civilisation. I still play from time to time the original DOS version with Dosbox and D-Fend Reloaded.

Re: Electron RGB to VGI

I have an issue 4 motherboard and currently using a 90’s Sony portable TV via a Scart lead. Works ok after I adjusted the vertical height, but I would prefer a bigger better display. I do still have a 29” Sony TV in storage which weighs a ton, but that doesn’t make for an easy workspace setup.

Electron RGB to VGI

Does anyone know how to connect a 17” VGA monitor to the RGB of an Electron? Or is it better to go straight to a brand new monitor with HDMI\DVI connector and buy a Scart to HDMI box?

Re: Missing old/new Electron Expansions

One other thought, it’s pretty hard to get hold of a Plus 1 and disk controller (Pegasus AP3/4 etc) on eBay, so having a modern alternative I would think would be attractive to a number of people.

I assume you already seen The hdmi adapter board that Dave is prototyping so that nearly exists? Not on my original list as external is good enough for me as with 9 machines I only need to buy a couple (rather than 9). I had seen this somewhere in the forum. I just thought it could be combined into...

An additional thought, with removing the ULA why not use it in an addition to the replacement ULA to switch between them?

Re: Proposed: "The Ultimate Electron Upgrade"

1. Near 100% compatible electron as possible
2. Turbo mode
3. Shadow + turbo
4. Everything Mode.
A good idea especially if 4 includes Mode 7 and no memory access limitations.

Re: Missing old/new Electron Expansions

£50-£60 doesn’t look excessive to me for an enhanced ULA. If it had the option to run as a normal ULA or enhanced then there is maximum flexibility.

One other useful hardware expansion would to have HDMI output possibly including audio not just video.

Re: Missing old/new Electron Expansions

For me ULA replacement has to first priority as most hardware expansions are available even if not integrated into a single unit. I certainly would like to have the options to run my Elk without time penalties on memory access, have access to Mode 7 and maybe extended memory map for programs. Second...

I took the case off the AP5, plugged in the BeebSCSI, turned on the Electron and ADFS Rom and BeebSCSI working! So it seems ADFS turns its self off when there isn’t a disk controller around. :D

When I’m back home I’ll try typing *ROMS to see what is listed. I have a feeling that I tried this and the command wasn’t recognised. I haven’t fitted the AP6 in the Plus 1 yet, maybe this is it.

Plus 1 and AP5 new issue.

I received last week and brand new AP5 (with ADFS Rom) and BeebSCSI. I plugged the AP5 in my Plus 1, typed *HELP, and I don’t see the ADFS Rom listed. The Rom is in slot 13. Am I doing something wrong? I haven’t tried it with the BeebSCSI attached yet.

Master Ram Board or Second Processors.

I’ve been reading for sometime about the Master Ram Board and second processors for the Elk. Both of them offer speed and memory improvements. One thing that puts me off the MRB is the need to unsolder the CPU. I can do some soldering but I’m not the best and I don’t won’t to muck it up. The other i...

I’m trying to get my head around the sideways Rom\Ram slots, shadow Ram etc. From what I read there are 16 sideways Rom slots available in the Elk if you have the right hardware expansion (http://www.acornelectron.co.uk/eug/06/a-sram.html). The right hardware being either a Slogger Rombox(+) (http:/...

My first approach I took to fixing keys was by removing the faulty key and disassembling the key based on this page https://deskthority.net/wiki/Futaba_ML_series.
