Re: Missing old/new Electron Expansions

For me ULA replacement has to first priority as most hardware expansions are available even if not integrated into a single unit. I certainly would like to have the options to run my Elk without time penalties on memory access, have access to Mode 7 and maybe extended memory map for programs. Second...

Re: Plus 1 and AP5 new issue.

I took the case off the AP5, plugged in the BeebSCSI, turned on the Electron and ADFS Rom and BeebSCSI working! So it seems ADFS turns its self off when there isn’t a disk controller around. :D

Re: Plus 1 and AP5 new issue.

When I’m back home I’ll try typing *ROMS to see what is listed. I have a feeling that I tried this and the command wasn’t recognised. I haven’t fitted the AP6 in the Plus 1 yet, maybe this is it.

Plus 1 and AP5 new issue.

I received last week and brand new AP5 (with ADFS Rom) and BeebSCSI. I plugged the AP5 in my Plus 1, typed *HELP, and I don’t see the ADFS Rom listed. The Rom is in slot 13. Am I doing something wrong? I haven’t tried it with the BeebSCSI attached yet.

If you are looking for a retro tape deck Amazon have a couple and you can probably buy tapes through them as well. For leads you can pickup from eBay. I did this.

Re: Master Ram Board or Second Processors.

Just read this in the forum about replacing the ULA. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9223&start=150

It really is fantastic. I do remember back in the 80’s still being a bit jealous of Beeb owners, but this would make up the difference and more. A much better upgrade than the MRB.

Master Ram Board or Second Processors.

I’ve been reading for sometime about the Master Ram Board and second processors for the Elk. Both of them offer speed and memory improvements. One thing that puts me off the MRB is the need to unsolder the CPU. I can do some soldering but I’m not the best and I don’t won’t to muck it up. The other i...

Re: Acorn Electron modern storage solutions question

Short update: On order arriving soon in May: AP6+EEPROM, AP5, BeebSCSI with cable and power supply lead and ADFS ROM. I’m considering whether to add to this with an AP3 or Pegasus 400 combined with a Gotek. Not quite sure which firmware to use here for the Gotek. The idea here is to make file exchan...

Re: Elk Sideways Rom\Ram, Shadow Ram etc.

Thank you everyone for your replies. :D Regarding the AP6 and EEPROMs, from reading the manual of the AP6 I see that many, but not all the ROM slots, support them. Only sockets that support locking are available to them. The utilities to use EEPROMs can be found at:- JG Harston’s utilities can be fo...

Elk Sideways Rom\Ram, Shadow Ram etc.

I’m trying to get my head around the sideways Rom\Ram slots, shadow Ram etc. From what I read there are 16 sideways Rom slots available in the Elk if you have the right hardware expansion (http://www.acornelectron.co.uk/eug/06/a-sram.html). The right hardware being either a Slogger Rombox(+) (http:/...

I managed to adjust the vertical height thanks to these instructions http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9963. Re: Elk advice

My first approach I took to fixing keys was by removing the faulty key and disassembling the key based on this page https://deskthority.net/wiki/Futaba_ML_series. This was very time consuming and I discovered it was not needed. All you need to do was remove the two legs\pins of the key and cleaning ...

Re: Tv display top line problem

Looks like I could try a different display. I still have my old 29” Sony CRT TV. Or I could try my old PC monitor, but I’ll have to work out how to take the RGB output and convert to VGA. I did look at this some years ago, but did nothing about it. Funny thing I don’t remember having this problem ba...

Tv display top line problem

I’ve been using my Elk with a Sony CRT TV via Scart and I always see the top line obscured by the case. Is this a TV or Elk issue?

BTW, the start screen is always fine.

Re: Elk advice

If you are still having problems with keys I can give you some advice on fixing them. It’s not difficult, but you will need a soldering iron, solder sucker and contact cleaner or spirit. I had issues not so long ago on the Elk I picked up on eBay. I should never have got rid on my mint condition Elk...

Re: Acorn Electron modern storage solutions question

Other thoughts regarding the BeebSCSI:- 2.3 Firmware, great to see you can transfer floppy disc images into the hard disc images. I see the program to do this is in mode 7, does it work ok in mode 6 for us poor Elk owners? Second thought, could the same code be reserved to exact files from the hard ...

I’ve been having strange keyboard problem with my Acorn Electron. Some keys stopped working so I opened my Elk, checked the key(s) with a multi meter, doesn’t work.
