Re: Kevin Edwards assembler series in Micro User

Thanks for the advice, links and references. I managed to track down the follow up series by Roland Waddilove, well the first article at least. For reference, it appeared in the Jan 87 edition of the Micro User, available via the link provided in the original post.

Re: Kevin Edwards assembler series in Micro User

Thanks so much for posting this. I've been having fun reading through the articles and trying some of the examples on my model B. I have a question about the example on page 18, "Program V Screen locator calculator". The program uses a multiplcation table in the OS 1.20 ROM to work out the starting ...

Re: 6502 second processor poll

I have a PiZero connected to the external tube socket on my master via a PiTubeDirect signal converter. I'm planning to get another couple for the second master and the BBC B, assuming the model B can be ressurrected ( currently missing a keyboard and has a broken power supply ).

Re: BBC B / Datacentre Fault

I did have an issue with my BBC master's internal datacentre a while back. I don't remember the exact details but I do remember that *IMPORT didn't work and some commands seemed to hang. Running *RAMTEST followed by CTRL-BRK fixed the issue for me and it has not re-occurred.

Is it still worth testing the main board? If so, how would I do this?
Okay, I think I see how to do this. I'll have a go tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Acorn 3000 4mb Ram Expansion

The 3MB boards are both Atomiwide boards, one dated 1992 and the other 1990. I guess like this one http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org.uk/32bit_UpgradesA2G/Atomwide_A3000_4MBRAM.html The boards are different. The 2MB/4Mb jumpers are in different positions on the two boards. In the 1992 version t...

Re: Acorn 3000 4mb Ram Expansion

I presume you have checked all the pin connections for the RAM connector including the solder joints? Actually, I haven't. However, I do have an existing 1MB expansion board fitted that works fine, i.e., the A3000 boots and reports 2MBs. So I guess that means that the main board is okay, unless of ...

Re: Acorn 3000 4mb Ram Expansion

I checked the jumpers in my A3000. The only difference I can see between our two jumper configurations is LK25, which according to the service manaual is used to configure the RGB Video Socket, so I guess this is unlikely to be the issue. If I read the manual correctly, your A3000 is configured as '...

Apologies for the poor picture quality and mess of wires which I'll have to do something about. beebsetup.jpg On the right we have a magnificient BBC master with an internal datacentre and external PI zero co-processor. Re: A3000 restoration

Mark Hayesman (retroclinic) definitely has a stock of the through hole ones that you need for the A3000? In the end I sent the entire computer off to retroclinic who promptly fixed it and sent it back. For the record the issue of the machine only booting to supervisor was fixed by replacing the CMO...

Re: Acorn 3000 4mb Ram Expansion

I originally tried to fit the 4MB ram boards last night without any success. The computer wouldn't boot with either board fitted. I got a red screen and a flashing floppy disk light. I did not note down the error code. The computer booted fine when I removed the RAM expansion entirely and also when ...

Sad news I'm afraid. The A3000 is unrestored. I turned the machine on last night and it booted to desktop without any problems. Hi All, I recently bought a second hand RiscPC with Riscos Adjust 4.39. The computer works fine but everytime it boots up it presents me someone else's name, presumably that of the previous owner. A3000 restoration

The A3000 found in my dad's garage has now been restored. I'd like to take the credit for the restoration but to be honest my father did most of the work. My contributions were limited to making the tea and chronicling his endeavours. The A3000 was bought in September 1990 and was heavily used for a...

Re: Atom boots after 26 years!

Thanks for all the replies Also if you fit a modern ROM/RAM board, you won't need the current hungry 2114 NMOS SRAM chips for main memory. Atom boots after 26 years!

I bought this Atom from a school friend in the summer of 1991 for the princely sum of 15 pounds. I played around with it for an afternoon and then put it in a box in my dad's garage, where it remained for 26 years. I turned in on yesterday and amazingly it worked. As far as I can tell it's a basic m...
