WD PiDrive

In addition to getting my old Acorn hardware up and running, I'm interested in using a Raspberry Pi as a modern RiscOS machine as I will only be able to leave the older machines set up in my "workshop" (boarded loft). Currently I have set up RiscOS on my original, 256meg Pi B, and have also installe...

Re: What is the average age on here??

I'm 37 Used beebs from the age of 5 and then Arcs at school from 1991. Really got the bug when we looked after a Master Compact from the school my mother worked at one summer (1989 I think) as they didn't want it getting stolen while the building was empty. We bought an Atari ST after that, replaced...

Re: Today I received.....

In addition to A3010 and Master Compact retrieved from parents' loft, I also found my old Psion 3a. Sadly it has suffered the dreaded hinge failure while in storage. Managed to find an identical non-working model on eBay so I can do a case transplant. IMG_2903.JPG Sold my first gen Acorn Pocket Book...

Re: Resurrecting an early A3010

Received a PM about the PowerTec board from another owner. Can't respond to it as my account here is too new. If the board works I'll be happy to help any other owners to the extent I can. Remember the IDE board being a temperamental thing when new. I think we ended up sending it back twice, though ...

Re: A3010 Adelaide PCB troubleshooting

Came across this thread when looking into what might be involved in bringing my own A3010 back to life. I don't think the Adelaide board has been lowered, as it looks to be at the same height as mine, and that's certainly never seen the warm end of a soldering iron since it was made. Perhaps some va...

Re: Resurrecting an early A3010

A nice and rare working early machine. I've been looking for the applications (in particular the formatter) for the exact same IDE minipodule in your machine. http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11342&p=141240&hilit=alsystems#p141240 Have you got them on diskettes ? Or maybe there is a...

Re: Hello from Essex

Welcome! Note that the Master Compact PSU has the infamous X2 capacitors that are likely to blow and can best be replaced asap. Iirc it only has one of them. Thanks for the tip, I suspected that might be the case. My wife is unhappy enough with me bringing more "junk" home, so I can do without stin...

Re: Hello from Essex

Welcome to the Forum, Andy . . . Enjoy . . . First job - Get the battery out of your A3010  Dave H :D That's my job for Saturday morning. Had a quick peek and it doesn't look too bad compared to some of the photos I've seen - especially considering this machine dates from 1992 when they firs...

Just upload them to the site as attachments, no need to host them elsewhere.
Sorry, fixed it. According to Google Photos those were external links, but evidently not.

Resurrecting an early A3010

Alongside my old Master Compact I retrieved my A3010 learning curve and AKF30 monitor from my parents' loft this weekend. Going to have to wait until the weekend before I can do much with it, but this evening I opened the box, fearing the worst of the CMOS battery. 69CEAC02-757D-4723-A47C-BDD4BBEA89...

Master Compact

I retrieved this from my parents' loft at the weekend. Also have the base unit which has dual 3.5 inch drives. Will probably replace the usual capacitors in the power supply before powering it up. Does the Master Compact suffer the same issue as the B in that regard? (Guess after 31yrs most things d...

Hello from Essex

Evening all Just collected my old Acorn 3010 and BBC Master Compact from my parents' loft. Look forward to getting them up and running again hopefully, thanks to the wealth of knowledge on this site. Recently set up Risc OS and ArcEm on the Raspberry Pi to reacquaint myself - hoping I can at least t...
