Write-an-Acorn-Floppy-Disc-from-an-image USB project
Hi, I visited a Retro meeting in Germany recently, and ran into a guy working on various Amiga stuff who happend to have created a "simple" interface based on the STM32F4Discovery and some custom software he published on GitHub: https://github.com/Slamy/SlamySTM32Floppy This software/hardw...

Re: A3000 post-battery-leak-repair
The A3000 serial port is a bit weird. There's an Acorn application note on it. Firstly it's not fitted as standard -- you need to fit a serial upgrade (Retroclinic is currently selling them on ebay and I can recommend them). Special wiring is needed for the "old" serial port based on the ...

Yes, different setup to the A3000 PSU, you can see the +/- 12v test points on the A3010 PCB here Thanks for the info. Looks like I will finally need an A3010 in my collection - anybody has a clean one to sell? Was the -12V/+12V really used in the A3010 for anything, or was ist just a case of using ...

Were there multiple different ICS IDE podules? Because ZIDEFS is especially for the ICS IDE podules.SarahWalker wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2019 6:28 pmNot sure how adaptable ZIDEFS is; ideA (or at least the podule I own) has a somewhat different memory map to the modern IDE podules. As does the RISC Developments podule.

Since you have already implemented the ideA IDE podule, I guess ZIDEFS should "just work"?SarahWalker wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 8:52 pmIf a suitable podule with the correct address map supporting 4 drives is written, yes. That's not really a function of the API though.

Re: Possible HD problem on A7000+
Image FSs typically implement another disc format (e.g. !ImageDFS for DFS...) and it's implementing the foreign format decoding to fit within Filecore constraints, that tends to be tricky. But I'd imagine that with a bit of manipulation of FS entry points it might be possible to redirect the Image ...

Re: Possible HD problem on A7000+
So for the last main thing I'd like to solve, does anyone know how I can use my CD drive to make an image of my hard drive? Depends on the size of your HD. In the good old times of HDs with less than 1 GiB I often used FCFS in compression mode to do a sector backup of my various drives and burned t...

Re: Riscpc internal IDE with only Cdrom - valid config?
Is CDFSSoftATAPI involved when using the Unipod? If not, I'll look to try force loading a later version. Every IDE podule comes with its own CDFSSoft_whatever variant. The CDFSSoftATAPI I refer to is the one in RISC OS ROM (or maybe softloaded) for the internal IDE. You can download the RISC OS 3.7...

Question... Is this a valid hardware configuration that should work? I have 2 Sony Cdrom drives that work fine (Master/Slave) when connected to a Unipod but fail to work properly when attached to the Built in IDE (Appear to hang on read accesses). Re: Trying again with my A3010....
To avoid having live mains exposed I've been feeding an external 5V power supply onto PL2 & PL4. No need for +/-12V unless you are debugging sound or serial (don't think they are used for anything else. The A3010 has +/-12V from the power supply? I always thought it was 5V only like the A3000 (...

Do you recall much about the inner workings of the Turbo A3000 software? Did the software do anything else (patch IOC timers, 100Hz, etc ...

You are of course missing the TurboA3000 upgrade and a VIDC enhancer as well as the great Gamer's Upgrade (4 port Joystick interface connected to I2C bus) and a 4 slot backplane. Two of those are easy, but the Gamer's Upgrade was only "popular" in Germany AFAIK and is quite rare. Keep goin...

Re: A series compatible KVM systems?
One approach could be to use another type of switch that is definitely dumb: Wasn't the original Archimedes (A3xx/A4xx) very sensitive to changing video cables while running? Which sometimes just fried the VIDC? Switching with a "dumb" type of switch would be the same as changing the cabl...

I'm assuming then that the latest Version 6 with asynchronous transfer support would be "overkill" for an Arch then ? You probably mean sync mode (this is the faster one - "Fast-SCSI" 5 MB/s up to 10 MB/s instead of the 3.3 MB/s that async mode provides). There are only very few...

Re: RISC OS relicensed: now under Apache 2.0!
Porting the OS to other platforms would widen the audience significantly. Don't forget to develop that super-fast emulator for ARM code before (try to start with an ARM26 code emulator and put it into ArcEm and RPCEmu), or else it won't be very useful and would leave the widened audience without mu...

Re: What's going on with the A4x0/1's serial port?
I think there was a SerialUtils module that got distributed with most boot systems that more standardised the functionality of the serial port - that could be why you're not seeing any problems. I've never had any problems with serial comms between A5000 or A480 and Master, PC or Spectrum. The seri...

Re: What's going on with the A4x0/1's serial port?
After an afternoon to mull things over, I'm inclined to believe that !Connector is replacing Acorn's serial port driver with its own (hence how it can do things that Acorn's original driver for the non-82710 machines couldn't do) but that the A420/1's hardware supported the use of those pins for si...

Risc PC mainboard power plug?
Hi,
is the 6 pin power plug for a Risc PC mainboard available somewhere, or only by cannibalising Risc PC PSUs? The RPC TRM only says "6 way power in", and I don't recognize the plug's shape as anything "standard".
Thanks

The limit is definitely 256 GiB, I think even since RISC OS 3.6 (although you'd be insane to use such a large disc with non-plus format, because object size gets just too big). I don't think 4 GiB was ever a limit anywhere, apart from the advised maximum in PRM Vol5a for "big disc" filecor...

The HxC will have fallen foul of the requirement for regular index pulses (the beeb requires these too) - that's how it detects if the drive's got something in it. Not sure if the lothartek ones do it. The gotek hxc & flashfloppy both do. I am fairly sure I had exactly this model successfully u...
