Re: New Adventures?

This is really cool! Thank you for something new and interesting on the beeb, really liking it so far =D> One little thing that may be a bug, on the first screen I tried typing random commands like LOOK, LOOK DOWN, LOOK TAVERN, etc. The screen goes black and then reloads from disk, and sometimes go...

Re: New Adventures?

http://i.imgur.com/YXEPxtX.png Well I think I've cracked it.... I've uploaded the first version of the game The Darkness of Raven Wood. DSD format for the BBC Micro B 32k. :D I need to give it a final play-through before signing it off properly. If you want you can download an early bird version of...

Re: New Adventures?

Great to hear that Fuzzel. When I'm not too ill that I can still read, I usually go for a very easy read, my fave is the Ruin series of books. Not very large but very easy to blast through and a great Conan/Gladiator/Dungeon and Dragons type affair, with some great twists and ideas. Level Nien I lik...

Re: New Adventures?

Hey Fuzzel. Yeah soon (tm) :-) I've been ill unfortunately. So not really felt like getting involved. But I am feeling better. Aiming for this weekend to have it done and up on the net assuming I can find a site to host the files. Funny how Website hosts used to give you storage, not anymore unless ...

Hey Lardo. Yeah its installed on my BBC Micro which I got from Retroclinic. I didn't think to get it installed into BeebEm! :) I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

Re: New Adventures?

I've learnt a fair bit though. Like for the next game, getting rid of the variables for IN and OUT and UP and DOWN as these are used very rarely in my games I can do them as bespoke code, saving a fair bit of memory. Also not loading every location graphic if its shared with the previous location, e...

Re: New Adventures?

Also there is a slight delay as it has to search the data file for the text description too. Its comes to something like 2-3 secs in total for the new location to appear on Emulator.

Re: New Adventures?

I did a playtest and could finish it, unfortunately found some more bugs, which I thought had been fixed. :x As for the graphics, they take a second or two, especially when played through emulator, as it seems to be emulating the disk access. Ironically on a BBC Micro fitted with Datacentre as I hav...

Thanks for the offer Arcadian! :D Alas I have no physical Disk Drives to put these onto. Once released though, if someone wants to download and transfer them to disk they're totally free to do so. If indeed they work on physical disks (I can't test it obviously), I can't see why not though as they w...

Re: New Adventures?

Thanks for the Feedback Simon. :) I'm sure they'll be some minor spelling mistakes slip through. The lack of a space after the fullstops was an attempt to save memory. Now though the descriptions are dragged off disc/file so I could do another pass and tweak/check the text one last time. :) I'd like...

Thanks for the update, hope we can play it soon :-) Well done sticking with the project, I have so many half done idea's, it's always the last 10% of polish that takes 90% of the time. Liking the new project too, always amazing to see what a good artist can do on old hardware. Thanks and your right...

Re: New Adventures?

By the way, running it through Retroclinic's virtual disk drives is very fast too (accessing the data). On an emulator like Beebem it tends to emulate the disk access times which means it can be a bit slow (although you could up the emulation speed to counter that, I think).

Here's another taster.... maybe I'm hyping this too much. LOL :D I don't think its up there with Village of Lost Souls or anything. Looks good though. It's my first adventure, its my first finished BBC game tbh. Learnt a lot from it though. :)

Re: Hello from Belgium, again....and Electron questions

Electron is cool. GOSDC is what I use. It's pretty good. Not compatible with some software. I found about 200 games (think, I might be remembering that wrong) are playable. Notable non-working games are things like Ravenskull, Barbarian, Imogen amoungst others. Most of the big ones do work though in...

...Maybe to back up this set of tools there could be a generic engine, for creating platform games, or one for Shoot'em Ups or one for Maze/Puzzlers like Repton Infinity, but with a bit of scripting ability for games creators to use?... Not sure about noob friendly (well, I am sure it won't be :() ...

Re: Development Suite/Engines

Yes I remember that. It was a collection of a series of Type ins and from articles in Electron User I believe. Might be worth trying to hunt it down.
