Re: A440/1 3.5" Floppy Drive

Yeah, had the drive out, cleaned the heads, no go. Lights up but gives disk error 4 blah blah. Same error if accessing or formatting.

Tried a known good drive and that works so it's not the machine.

A440/1 3.5" Floppy Drive

Mine seems caput so need a replacement. They seem to be not as sturdy as the rest of the machine these floppy drives, I think the one on my A3000 is on it's way out too.

Anybody got one or know of a suitable substitute? Modify PC floppy maybe?

RISC OS ROM format

Sorry if this all sounds a bit basic but would just like to better understand. I assume it's possible to use EPROMs to hold the opeating system (talking about 3.1x here) but how would you get the OS into the EPROM? I know, using an EPROM programmer but I mean how are the ROMs formatted? The OS can b...

Re: Extension ROMs - A5000

Success! So, I built the extension rom flashed it, installed it, all good.

The problem with the BASIC program was simply a couple of variables (filestoadd & nooffiles) not initialised in the right place. It would have worked as is for a podule rom I guess.

Re: Extension ROMs - A5000

Should have checked the BASIC content first.

There is an error in the code, it's a while since I've done BBC BASIC but I should be able to work it out. Sorry for the noise.

Re: Extension ROMs - A5000

Ok, I've had a quick go at building ane extension rom, using the tools provided by steve3000, but not got very far at all. I'll pm Steve about this thread in case he has time to help. The ROMbuild tool errors out when adding IDEFS with 'Mistake at line 2150'. In the meantime, I'll do some reading on...

Re: Extension ROMs - A5000

If you're considering the updated ADFS to get better IDE compatibility, I'd seriously consider using Wizzo instead: I'm just trying to replace a noisy Conner IDE with CF/SD cards but caught in the chicken and egg scenario. Can't boot from the CF/SD card cos the unpatched ADFS can't be read from it ...

Extension ROMs - A5000

Anybody any info on what is needed and how to put one of these together? I'm looking to put the updated ADFS (v2.68) into one for my A5000 but I have absolutely no idea where to start or even what eprom chip I would need. Initially, I thought I'd include ADFS in my powertec scsi card but it appears ...

Re: Disc Error 20/21/23 and SATA->IDE support

I know, another post to an old thread but I've been trying to quieten down my A5000 so I replaced the PSU fan with a silent one and the Conner IDE with a dual CF adapter, with two 512MB cards. They won't format with ADFS v2.67, giving an error 23. They do format with the patched ADFS v2.68 but give ...

Old thread I know, came across it looking for A3000 network podule. Not sure if anybody got something sorted but I built an RJ45 MAU for my A3020 a while back if anybody is interested. Works faultlessly. Biggest problem was sourcing bits n bobs. It wasn't professional but it worked.

Any know if the system board drawings for the A3000 are available online? I have the TRM & Service Manual, just after motherboard drawings.

Re: Wanted: Microvitec Cub Monitor Repair(er)

Crumbs, don't skip it - where are you? Is it a 1451 or 1431? Its a model 1431MS. I wasn't gonna skip it until Colinmac said it wasn't of any use, but eventually, it will have to go if it's faulty. Had the back off, no apparent capacitor failures. Can't see anything obvious. There 'appear' to be a f...

It’s possible it could just be a life expired electrolytic capacitor
Fair point. I may as well whip the case off and take a look before 'skipping' it.

Re: RISC OS 4.39 ROMs

I am not sure how that sits legally, but assuming you 'bought' the softload version could you burn it onto a couple of EPROMs? I should have posted back, my apologies, but I actually received a set the other day. The code that makes up the roms is compressed (down from 6meg I believe) so apart from...

I don't suppose one of you guys could provide me with a dump of the rom contents? Having trouble here so would like the most recent modules I can get.
My card currently has SCSIDrive v1.10 (1992), SCSIFS v1.10 (1991) and SCSIFiler v1.10 (1992).

Cheers.
