Re: Cassette Player appears to be broken am unsure please help!

The problem I'm facing is the seller claims "he doesn't remember these subtleties" You know like "is it broken or not" But to be fair he seems very communicative. He was having a baby at the time as well and yet still managed to reply within half an hour (his missus I think  ) The T...

Cassette Player appears to be broken am unsure please help!

Hi All, Been trying to get into some BBC Micro programming recently. To get as much usable RAM I decided to go the Tape Recorder route, so I bought one on ebay. =D> This is the item: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282427004248?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Being a bit ...

Re: Why I met the BBC Micro the movie!!

These are pretty good video's straight from the heart :D Like the animation and concepts, my only advice would be to get the sound volume normalised or filtered to get a clearer sound. Otherwise good insights and love the Killer Gorilla part at the end with the sound playing while you spoke, great ...

Why I met the BBC Micro the movie!!

Hi All, This isn't really specifically about the BBC Micro but I thought I'd put it here anyway!! :D It's a story underlying the reason why I met the BBC Micro. I think there's a lot of good lessons to be learned here. It covers particularly the mid nineties era where there was a lot of changes goin...

Hi All :D In case anybody's following it's amazing for taking the tedium out of complex 6502-assembly language PDFs!! What it does it lets you run Adobe Reader which is more powerful than most people realise with a joystick while looking at old Retro animations taken from such games as Stryker...

Is the Retro Bubble going a bit flat?

Dear All, A couple of years ago I used to keep seeing BBC Micros and C64 go for near 100 pounds on e-bay. Similarly around thar same time I tried getting a disk drive for my BBC micro and couldn't get it for less than 76 quid. I can remember I really struggled because they kept bidding up to well ov...

Re: Why DFS not working?

What's that upside-down board? If 8271 DFS (0.xx, 1.xx) doesn't find an 8271 FDC it disables itself, if 1770 DFS (2.xx) doesn't find a 1770 FDC it disables itself. Oh so that explains why the ROM doesn't come up at all. Thanks a million, jgharston what a star. =D> =D> I was thinking I'd actually br...

Re: Why DFS not working?

Yes, looking closely there are no disk interface buffer ICs fitted. The RetroClinic 1770 interface is very similar to the Acorn and Watford interfaces. As well as the daughter board plugged into the Floppy Disk Controller socket you also need the buffer ICs, 2x 74*38 for IC79 and IC80 and a couple ...

Re: Why DFS not working?

The "upside-down" board looks like it says ????clinic on it, so could be a RetroClinic 1770/2 board. But the main board needs checking against the installation instructions, as there is more to a disk drive interface than just the 1770/2 board and the ROM chip. Mark Hi Mark, I knew I could count on...

Hi, Just made a few mods to the Blagger anim which showed transparent in some walking I recommend at least give it a go, it's virus-free, compiled AutoHotKey script and all it needs is a little directory to go. No Problem Pablos :-) If you have any further question regarding Vice or the real hardware let me know :-) The main downside to the C64 is the basic, that standard commands in BBC Basic that your take for granted such as *cat *format etc are not available. Even changing the back ground and fore gro...

Re: How to load games on a C64?

Hi :-) In Vice on Linux and Windows there is an autostart option for both tape and disk images, but bear it will load the first file in the naming structure on the disk, the same as Load "*",8,1 By using auto start it speeds up the loading time in Vice greatly :-) If your .d64 image has mutiple fil...

Re: How to load games on a C64?

I tried LOAD "*",8,1 [..snip..] game just went on LOADING.. Seemingly forever..... That is normal for a c64. Games took forever to load from tape, don't forget the c64 has 64k of ram to fill - double what the beeb has. Disks were not much faster as the disk interface is serial. Much slower than a b...
