Re: Riscpc internal IDE with only Cdrom - valid config?

Another fairly straightforward check would be to put the CD drive in your A7000+, connect the power plug but not the IDE, and see if it will let you open the drive bay. If it does, that implies that there's some signal coming from the IDE controller that's locking up the drive. (From a brief, unthi...

Re: High Score Challenge S12 - R6 - Wet Zone

This game is way too fast for me, my brain can't keep track of all the enemies and bullets to dodge them all, it's just random moving about whilst firing continuously and hoping I don't hit in to anything  Scott You and me both Scott.......but since I've done a great job of dissing this game, ...

Re: High Score Challenge S12 - R5 - 2048

High Score Tables Updated for the 5th Round...... Several people did really well with this one. There were either the haves (won the game) the have nots (less than 10k and then there was FourthStone who stood alone in the middle of the pack - that in itself is unique. However, there was a clear win...

Re: Riscpc internal IDE with only Cdrom - valid config?

I'm afraid I've got no experience with how Acorn devices interface with a CD-ROM drive, so I'm largely coming at this from the PC / first principles side. If a CD drive reads an audio CD, but not a data CD, I'd tend to conclude that it's a software/driver problem on your machine. Testing the same d...

Re: Riscpc internal IDE with only Cdrom - valid config?

Also, is the cable straight through for the hard drive and the CD-ROM? That would be good to know too. I don't think I've ever encountered an IDE cable that wasn't straight-through. The only reason that some wires are crossed over for floppy cables is that IBM-compatibles settled on jumpering them ...

Re: Riscpc internal IDE with only Cdrom - valid config?

Ah, this could be useful for me too. I tried to add a CD-ROM to my OmniBus server box and the tray wouldn't open/close on button push. Perhaps this driver will help with that, not sure. Also, is the cable straight through for the hard drive and the CD-ROM? That would be good to know too. Thanks in a...

Re: A7000+ desktop boot issues

Just a thought your boot might be ok now. Just be aware if you remove your !Boot and replace it with Uniboot, it will be like having a freshly built machine and consequently any app / utility etc that added things to the boot in the past will then potentially stop working or error in some way. So y...

I feel like my !Boot was flakey as the machine has had some weird problems.

I've decided to use uniboot and we'll see how that goes.

Re: Network setup screen greyed out

So guys, the problem appears to be with Webster or my lack of understanding of how Webster works. I downloaded ArcWeb and it works just fine and actually for an old machine quite fast. Wow, thought I might have lost my IT skills for configuring network cards even though this is a first for the RISC ...

Re: Network setup screen greyed out

Thanks Gentlemen, I had a look on my machine and it seems that some things were definitely missing. I had been looking in 370, not 310. That's why I couldn't find the files. The resolver is the ANT one according to something I saw while doing this process (I think when I configured the hosts) Basica...

It maybe part of the boot download available here :

http://riscos.com/ftp_space/

Worth a look anyway
I don't see any modules that begin either DNS or Resolver within the 3.7zip file.

Could it be somewhere else, also not in the actual !boot portions

Re: Possible HD problem on A7000+

So I tried an HP DVD writer on my A7000+ but still get the error that says it can't write to the CD. Would I be correct in thinking that the device may need a driver for RISC OS 3.7? Edit.... tried the free software and it won't write to my DVD r/w drive. I may have to opt for the more expensive opt...

Re: Possible HD problem on A7000+

I have confirmed that my CD-ROM drive is a read only. I do have 2 or possibly as many as 4 CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drives.

I'm wondering about success of these working on the A7000+

What are people's experiences with this?

Thanks again in advance......

Re: Possible HD problem on A7000+

Thanks for this. I think I must have a CD-ROM with read only capabilies. I'll have to check further.

Just out of curiosity......do fairly modern writeable CD-ROM/DVD-ROMs work on the A7000+

Thanks again, slowly closing in on my issues.......

Re: Network setup screen greyed out

Edit: My machine is an A7000+ with an ANT Ethernet NIC I *think* this happens when no DNS resolver module is available. Check rommodules if anything is unplugged - every RISC OS version shipped with the A7000+ should contain a resolver module. HTH hubersn So, I've checked unplugged and rommodules. ...

Network setup screen greyed out

Hi Folks, I'm trying to set up my network. I've come to realize that I probably have to use my provider's DNS names in order for it to work. For now I'm using Webster as my browser, just to see if the setup is working. My problem is when I first tried to set this up, I decided to do host name only i...
