Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

There is no "repair kit" necessary. It's just two pieces of wire and you need a small drill to apply this mod. But like Dave H. mentions, you can send your Plus1 to him and he'll do the mod for you. It's about 15 minutes work.

Re: Modification required for the AP6 when using Roland's WiFi or RetroClinic's DataCentre

Thanks Dave for your explanation and example. I just have to add the remark that the wire to the Plus1 is also connected to pin 11 of IC9. To keeps things the same I will also apply this mod to the AP6's that I am building for Egel, 0xC0DE and myself. I'll practise on one of theirs before doing my o...

I know where those two vias are. I mentioned them also in one of my yesterday evening posts. I think that the vias are the neatest and easiest mods. I'm looking forward to see your mod :)

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

On (older) Linux kernels there was once a "bad ram patch". At boot time, the kernel did a memory test and every faulty address was marked as "occupied" and the kernel did never assign that address block to programs. A software solution for this problem is to avoid reading and wri...

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

Would another way to make the mod without track cutting be to bend out the nFCxx pins of IC9 (pin 11?) and IC10 (pin 9?) wire them together, then run a wire to nPGFC on the AP1? The problem (challenge?) is that IC10 is soldered at the bottom of the board so it won't be easy to bend out pin 9. Or I ...

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

That's a great idea. I will try that tomorrow. At least we can see if that solves the issue with the WiFi card. That this fault was not discovered earlier is IMHO because there are almost no expansions that use the paged RAM. And if there are, the users probably don't have a (new) AP6. Don't be too ...

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

I have found something about the new AP6... Two things kept me busy: Why is the fault still there even when there is no ROM in the AP6 board and the data bus buffer is removed? In the *MENU command there is every now and then a faulty character in the title description (I never mentioned that becaus...

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

Hmmmm .... before removing it I'll try to find out where these writes come from. There are several NEW AP6 boards in use and a lot of their owners don't have the skills and tools to remove and reprogram it. I can (temporary) install the 22V10 in a socket and do some tests. If all works well I can re...

Although IC10 (22V10) on the AP6 is soldered in place it would still be possible to reprogram it to respond to another address . . . Painfull, but possible!
Can this be done with the 22V10 in place or do I have to remove it?

Wonder if it can be made to play nice with th Roland ATOM. Where can we get these puppies? I expect that this can work with the Atom 2k15 if you specify the area from #8000-#BFFF as memory mapped I/O. You’ll just loose the extra banks at #4000-#7FFF. Playing snapper will however be impossible

Re: Acorn Electron online? What can possibly be wrong?

I have had problems with cartridges (E2P and ElkSD) in the past that were fixed by buffering the phi0 and 16MHz lines from the Electron with schmidt triggers. That is now my default configuration, but it does involve cutting tracks and soldering in a 74LS14. It does seem to be a problem that only a...

I recall that I had my EF9345 card inside my Atom but I did a bit cheating .... The original board has the connector not suitable for internal installation as...

That was for practical reasons, less modifications on the controller board since the “designers” of the mod did not want to mirror the controller like it does in the original configuration.

Re: (Extra) Buffers/Transceivers for PL6 ❓

From the control bus only phi2 and r/w are used in most of the expansions. Phi2 has some kind of buffer by a double inverter. So only r/w is completely unbuffered. Afaik this is not a real problem. The load on the address bus is quite high as almost every memory ic is connected to (at least apart of...

May I suggest the Elk WiFi board with WiCFS (loading uef files from a web server) and WiDFS (mounting a ssd image on a web server) as an alternative :- ?

You’ll need a Plus1 or Minus1 board for the WiFi board.
