Re: Yarrb - redesigned

I do agree that you can practise smd soldering IF you can see what you are doing and you have the right equipment. On the other side I can also understand that there are members here that even have trouble with soldering normal through-hole components but still want to buy a new board. I sometimes g...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

Good news: I have ordered the first ten boards at PCBway, now let's hope they work [-o<

After all, they charge only $30 for assembling those 10 boards, which is $3 per board. I cannot do that myself for that price.
The price will be lower than Allpcb, however I have to wait what the taxes will be.

Re: YARRB [SOLD OUT]

I have never tried a W65C02S6TPG-14 on a Yarrb board or an Atom2k15. I copied the jumpers and resistors from another RAM/ROM board. When I have to order some new components I will order such a CPU and test it, to see if I can get it working. But like you said, it is probably not worth the trouble be...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

I asked for a quotation at PCBway. Naturally they have other specifications for the BOM and CPL files :? So I might reconstruct them again. Luckily there are only 41 SMD components on the board  The speed of the board will be limited by the 6502, 6522 and 8255. So probably it will run at 1 or 2...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

Today I got my quotation for the Yarrb2 board and assembling the SMD components. Without the LED's (those are out of stock), the price is about €420,00 including VAT and import taxes for ten boards. And then you still have not all components (e.g. the EEPROM, voltage regulator and headers) so the co...

Re: On This Day

I don't exactly remember the date but is was in the first week of November 1983 that I bought my first computer: an Acorn Atom with a little extra RAM. The price was hfl 239.00 (about €108.00) and after that I invested many more guilders and euros in it  I had worked five weeks during my summer...

Another supplier like "Allpcb" is not an option ? Yes, see my post at Tue Oct 29, 2019 10:31 pm  It's actually surprisingly easy with some practice. Re: Yarrb - redesigned

I was playing with the calculator at PCBGOGO.com. Assembling 5 - 15 of these boards costs only $50. Adding 5 more raises the costs to $145  It looks like it's much cheaper to order 2 x 10 boards than 1 x 20 boards. Parts not included. The calculator at allpcb.com looks very similar to the one...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

I got an answer from JLC: Actually that depends on the demand for this part XC95144XL is high or low . If it's high demand, then I believe we will purchase this part soon. If low demand,I think there won't be purchasing plan recently. So actually, you can never be sure if any non-standard component i...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

This could be a realistic approach but I have to investigate the total height of a Yarrb (which is already a daughterboard on the Atom's main board) and then another CPLD board on top of that. On the other hand, creating a small board with 40 - 50 pins and a SMD chip can also be a challenge. I'll ha...

That's really annoying for you.... and not a goot advertisement for those of us considering this service. Indeed. When I picked this part it was plenty on stock. Re: Yarrb - redesigned

Lcsc even mentions that this cpld is discontinued. I'll ask them if they will continue the 144 for at least a year or so. If so then I can redesign it for the time being.....

Another option is to use a 72 but then it is not very useful as a stand-alone board.

  Today I got an email from JLC that there is not much demand for the XC95288XL and that there won't be any supply on short term. So I have to check if my board can be redesigned with an '144 ( probably with the same risk of getting no components ) or find another manufacturer :( I don't...

Re: Yarrb - redesigned

My intention is to have a first batch of 10 boards just in case there is something wrong with the design despite all our good care.

I see that the XC95144XL cpld is available again and I hope the 288 will follow soon. JLC will notify me if there are new ones in stock.

Yes, if you buy them from Elektor they are blue but Elektor also publishes the pcb layout so you can make them yourself at home. It worked nice for simple boards. For Yarrb2 it would probably not be possible

DIY PROJECT from which book ? ( elektor/elektuur?) , pc ??
Elektor normally has an EPS number on the printed circuit board, even if it is home made. So, if there is no such number at the back side of the board then I'd advise to skip the Elektor magazines.

Re: Atom Tube Interface

Pin 1 should be at the "edge side" of the printed circuit board and pin 32 should be next to the printer connector. The upper position should be the right one. I don't have exactly the same connector so just double check the pin numbers.

After you made these bridges, USE A 5V POWER SUPPLY . If you do not make the bridges you need an 8V power supply ...

(Atom2K18 includes a header for the Pi, which amongst other things connects the Pi's serial lines to the Atom2K18's UART) This is not hard wired on the PCB because that would make the serial lines unusable for other experiments and projects.
