Re: Printing a capacitor

I will have to take a closer look at the printer. Now I''m printing a minion for a test but that one also fails. After printing the bottom grid there are no more layers although the printer is still busy printing nothing. Maybe the PLA feed gets stuck so it can't print any more.

Re: Printing a capacitor

Thanks for your efforts. I think the heat won't be a big problem because other attempts to make new old capacitors are working with the same principle: make a new housing either by wood, pvc (electricity pipes) or even with clay. I downloaded your design and tried to print it. Unfortunately my 3D pr...

Printing a capacitor

As some of you might know, I also repair old radios. Currently I'm working on a Philips 208U-45 (march 1946) and it has some bad capacitors - just like many beebs from that era ;) Now I want to replace these bad capacitors with new ones, but they are so yellow.... There are many ways to reconstruct ...

O sure you can be more help :)

I tried to add my cpld files to the Atom Godil project in ISE but it did not recognise these files. Even when I force an error ( keyword: entyty ) there was no error. How can I add my two sources?

How on earth can a design with 302 warnings still work?
ISE-Godil.png
Can I safely ignore these warnings or do I have to tune my ISE application a bit? I'm using ISE 14.7 on Linux and I just cloned the Godil code from github.

I think that counting flybacks is quite difficult because the flyback does not generate an interrupt. So the program must self keep track of the flyback state. And it is not very accurate.

However, I don’t have a better solution...

Re: Atom 2k18 ?

I have been doing some counting about the pins and the FPGA module has enough I/O ports for replacing the Godil and the two CPLD's. The module has 72 I/O ports and I need 70 ports. I will soon try to merge my CPLD code into the Atom Godil files and check if that still compiles without errors... It w...

My Atom 2k14 lacks the two inverters at phi2 and it works perfectly without them. But maybe that is because of the faster, modern components used.

Re: Which killer app made you buy a BBC?

For me it was basic and the operating system. I was relocating the basic for my Atom-in-PC card and I needed some references. Afaik there was no emulator back in 1998 so I borrowed a real BBC and later I could keep it.

Re: Atom 2k18 ?

I have ordered a Spartan board to do some experiments. Because most people want an Atom with a real CPU, VIA etc I do not want to implement these in the FPGA as well but I am considering to implement the glue logic (CPLD's) into this FPGA - that would reduce the total costs and make the board design...

Yep. 49 kilopixels. It really would be nice to find some more documentation of this system because it might be possible to run the roms on the Atom2k15. Well, at least partly. I should find out where the 6847 is set up and how the keyboard is scanned. And then, with one ROM at #Axxx and the rest at ...

It's just 256 x 192 pixels (like the Atom CLEAR4) :)

Well, they did a very good job on copying the Atom's keyboard  The only differences are: RET and DEL are swapped BREAK key missing (reset is at the back which might be an advantage  Other items not on the Atom are the serial port and the disk interface connector. Nice computer anyway.

In an unexpanded Atom you can also use an eprom (2532) at #Exxx by piggy packing it on another rom and connect the cs pin to ic23 pin 9. Remove ic4 to avoid conflicts on the data bus as #Exxx is meant to be outside the Atom. That way you can have both the MMC rom and the Econet rom. Or contact me fo...

Nope, I use DNLOAD regularly and UPLOAD very very very sometimes. When writing a larger programme for the Atom it's nicer to work on my Mac and then download the executable code to the Atom.

Re: Atom 2k18 ?

I don't think you can program the device over USB. I assume that the USB is needed for powering the board during programming. The programming goes via the JTAG connector. IMHO..... Actually, a nice fix might be to drive the two Vin pins on the header via a schottky diode. Then no reverse powering w...

It's the USB connector that causes the problem, not the JTAG connnector.
I know that  But if we do not use the USB for communication then the USB is only used for programming the device and then the board will be out of the Atom.

It can, but see this post for some gotchas: Basically, if you connect the USB port and the Atom power is off, you end up trying to power the whole Atom via USB. That may well damage your laptop. At the moment I,don't see any reason why one would connect a laptop to that board. Especially when the j...

Re: Atom 2k18 ?

I had a short conversation with the seller of the Spartan boards and we can order those boards with either no headers soldered on in, or have them soldered on the bottom side of the pcb. That would make it possible to do in-circuit programming because the JTAG header should be at the top for inside ...

Re: Using BBC BASIC on a Homebrew Computer

You can start by modifying the Atom BBC MOS rom as this contains most functions (api calls)!for running BBC Basic. I was looking for the source but I could not find it. With a decent mod rom you can run BBC Bacis with no modifications at all.

That is the way Acorn implemented BBC Bacic on the Atom.
