Re: 32k RAM , #0000 #7FFF

32k ram is more then enough for me :D :D :D :D . That's what I thought a few years ago but my Atom now has 512KB RAM. And I am working on a project that actually is going to use a lot of this memory. I can really recommend Hoglet's noise killer video ram board. It gives a nice and quiet screen when...

Re: 32k RAM , #0000 #7FFF

This screen shows that your Atom is screaming for more RAM .... you can easily add 2K extra
Consider replacing the video memory by a single 8K static ram, that might solve your screen issues, saves energy and adds more RAM. If you need some more information or some components then let me know!

Re: ROM IC24 Acorn Atom #A000-#AFFF

I don't think that you're a noob because you manage to make an Arduino read a file from an sd card and send it to your Atom. I neverever touched an Arduino and I wouldn't know how to read a file. And people call me an ICT specialist (but that's their fault  ). Since you managed to transfer a f...

Re: ROM IC24 Acorn Atom #A000-#AFFF

Nice work Jan! You could also use the A-port on the large PL6/7 connector, that would have saved you the shortcuts of IC50. You can also use the A-port for 8 bit in and the B-port for 8 bit out, completely with handshake. I did that in my Atom-in-PC, so hardware and software examples are available. ...

Thanks to the many people that went to the beaches last weekend and were celebrating "f**k the Corona virus parties" .... we're kind of grounded until June 1st. We're now only allowed to go outside the house if no family member has fever and only for doing necessary shopping and for a short walk (e....

Remarkable that this setup does not clash with the buffer IC4....

IIRC this bus driver is enabled for all addresses between #400 and #7FFF, excluding the lower memory area #2800-#3BFF. And it is enabled for the DOS ROM area #E000 - #EFFF.

Now I'm just hoping that you don't have to cancel the Big Ben Club meeting as well. Maybe JudgeBeeb can attend as well since the Eurovision Contest is cancelled :(. But that's something for later and another topic.....

Here in Holland a lot of people, including politicians, don't seem to take it too serious. You can say that.... Yesterday I was out for a short walk with Misty (our dog) and I came across a group of twelve women, walking and talking together. Also groups of jogging people and a lot of people near e...

Re: zero page addresses help please

If you really need more zero pages addresses you can also copy them to another block of memory and copy them back after your routine has finished. I did the same in a program for my Atom that might interact with basic and other stuff. So when I enter my routine I start copying the zero page addresse...

We have a few things in common:
1. The Atom was also my first computer
2. I also still have a fondness for old 8-bit computers
3. I also work in IT

Don't worry about any data in the HM6116 .... There is nothing in it. The HM6116 is static cmos memory and its contents is gone directly after power off unless you have some battery backup implemented but that is not applicable here. So you can safely remove it and replace it by the AtoMMC rom. I al...

IMHO it's something between you (the publisher) and the authors of the game to agree if you want to make (commercial) tapes. I can understand that you cannot give the tapes away for free. Personally I am not interested in those tapes. Most AGD games are about 32K and that takes ages to load from a 3...

I'd also reseat the 6502 and the ROM. If that does not help try to find out if the CPU is running by checking the SYNC pin, address and data lines with a scope (if you have one available).

Re: TM1637 LED module and the Atom or 6502 in general

On my Atom2k18 this module provides an irritating noise when the display is on. The noise decreases when the density of the display is lowered. I guess this is caused by the way the density is regulated. This causes a distortion on the power supply rail of the board. I added a 470uF capacitor betwee...
