The question is, is there any interest on saving a local copy? Yes, please do! (What we did for another book might help: you'll mainly be scanning monochrome (black and white) text, and you don't necessarily want high-resolution archive-quality scans, but you do still want scans that can be OCR'd, ...

I half wonder if the best thing to do would just be to fork the utils off into a basictool-utils repository.
