Re: Strange issue with an AKF11 CRT

The insulator ooze looks normal, it's a usually a factory glue to keep winds and convergence magnets in place. as for the picture, yeah agree, for the focus to go like that sounds like the LOPT. I think the AKF11 is essentially a Philips CM8833 (mk 1), and new lopts are available. (ebay , donberg et...

Re: Sony PVM CRT repair

Hi Mark, I don't know the diodes are bad but if they are, the parts list describe D605,613,615,618 as "EGP20G" but on the block diagram as RGP15J for 605,613,618 and RGP15G. D615 = EGP20G or RGP15G D605 = EGP20G or RGB15J D613 = EGP20G or RGP15J D618 = EGP20G or RGP15J the G seems to be 400v and the...

Re: Sony PVM CRT repair

That's a great steer thank you Mark & Kazzie, When I checked the output from the G board (when connected to A and running) the +15v is stable at 14.98v the +115v is stable at 114.7v and as we know the -15v is -20v and climbs to -18 It'll probably be the weekend before I can check PH601 and the D615,...

Re: Sony PVM CRT repair

With regard to the -23V output on the -15V rail, is that on the power supply board (board G)? And is that with the other boards connected or disconnected? If it's that far off when disconnected, I'd be worried about the T603 transformer, as the only things between it and the -15V output is a rectif...

Re: Sony PVM CRT repair

A very overbright picture may mean that the current flowing through the electron guns is too high. Most CRT sets have a protection system, such that over a certain level, it will shut down all or part of the set. Some protection designs latch and some don’t (so the set may then cycle on and off). I...

I just had a listen and the sound is so familiar :D . I think it must have been used on pretty much every single kids show back in the 80s.

It made me think of Danger Mouse....

Re: Sony PVM CRT repair

I've done a bit more work on this. I've recapped the power board but problem remains.
The board is outputting -23v on the -15 rail so am looking to replace the regulators next.

Sony PVM CRT repair

Hi there, My lovely pictured Sony PVM has gone weird. ! Not sure if there are any CRT experts out there but felt it was worth at least asking on here. When I turn on the picture comes on, (a bit over bright) and over about 60 seconds the picture slowly fades to nothing (including OSD bits). I've che...

Re: CRT repair

From experience high pitch will be either the flyback (LOPT) on the way out or the power transistor, which on philip colour crts i *think* is a BU508A. The BU508A being quite any easy swap, LOPT a bit more involved, and may as well do all the electrolytic caps while your at it. *always discharge the...

Re: CRT repair

As someone else said, the power switch on philips monitors is flakey (the internal latch starts to fail) and does does like yours is starting to go, you can buy new switches (but require discharge, dismantle and desolder) other people just wedge the switch in with a bit of plastic/lollystick!. Don't...
