Re: CRT repair

From experience high pitch will be either the flyback (LOPT) on the way out or the power transistor, which on philip colour crts i *think* is a BU508A. The BU508A being quite any easy swap, LOPT a bit more involved, and may as well do all the electrolytic caps while your at it. *always discharge the...

Re: CRT repair

As someone else said, the power switch on philips monitors is flakey (the internal latch starts to fail) and does does like yours is starting to go, you can buy new switches (but require discharge, dismantle and desolder) other people just wedge the switch in with a bit of plastic/lollystick!. Don't...

Exile Map Editor

After Vectoreyes (Adrian) did his thread about his last Exile question and RTW did his screen interpretation of the mapping algo. it sparked my interest. I've always been a bit obsessed with the game and wanted to have a play with is insides. Having worked out in my head how some of it works I've st...

I seem to recall it was the 'moral outrage' caused by Mortal Kombat on home machines that caused film like ratings to be introduced.

Re: My final unanswered Exile question

Thanks Tom, so let me paraphrase you, the x,y we know because we choose it and the x lookup is only used as a pointer for confirming the what I called 'special' mapped items and their parameters. I'll probably start a thread in Projects shortly for my Exile Editor progress. p.s. Nice to meet you at ...

Is anyone up to the challenge of getting Elk Repton working on the beeb? It seems to play OK but the screen is in the wrong position. There are 3 versions at Stairway to Hell: https://www.stairwaytohell.com/filesearch.php?title=repton&beebdisk=1&beebtape=1&electape=1&Search=Search 2 seem to work an...

Hi Rich, Ok, I was supposed to be doing work this evening but your question nerd-sniped me: "how it comes to be that a single object can have multiple 'views'". Turns out it's actually pretty simple. With reference to the online assembly, http://www.level7.org.uk/miscellany/exile-disassembly.txt. L...

Re: Spring Cleaning the Motherboard

There are tools known as pin straighteners, I think I have one somewhere (not seen daylight for about 20 years mind...), they can be useful if you are regularly fitting chips. But they only straighten the pins. You then fit the chip yourself. Mark I picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago whil...

Re: Which games from other platforms did you wish was on the BBC?

When I was teaching at Camp Beaumont we they had two suites of BBC Masters and two suites of Commodore 64s. The C64s seemed to be used mostly for games, the Masters for programming, office applications, and art. However, there was one game on the C64s that I particulary noticed, and ever since have...

Thanks to Kees awesome work on the Atom 6502 code, I managed to get the first BBC game up & running in just 3x train journeys...

My ultimate goal would be to get Dethmunk's Foggy working in full colour, but a lot to do before then. :)

Nice work there! thank you to Kees too

Fn	Forward by n
Rn Rotate clockwise by n degrees

EDIT:a few of the abbreviation don't parse either?!, yet on a single line they do. I think some of your abbreviations were a bit off (e.g. MID$ and INSTR). Here's the prog with correct abbreviations. It still can't be typed onto one line though*: 1MO.0:VDU28;31,6479;29,640;512;:PL.69,0,0:REP.I.LINE...
