Yes, you can call a procedure or function within another procedure. A procedure can also call itself. Useful when I wrote a version of Minesweeper.

Re: BASIC V SPRITES

not easy but fascinating ;) Next step for me will be to load a full picture, in order to cut tiles on it (for example a picture 320x200 with lot of tiles 16x16)... dont' want to create hundreds of separate files/tiles. the question is : can a create this picture on PC with PAINT ? (for example .BMP...

Re: BASIC V SPRITES

I seem to remember that, since you can define the amount of memory allocated to the screen under RISC OS, you can actually have more than 2 banks of screen memory.

You can also, from memory, use OS_SpriteOp to draw a sprite or sprites on another sprite, which you can then draw on to the screen.

Re: BASIC V SPRITES

I also need to check if we can do an instant refreh of the screen (like double buffering) To display for example my 11x11 tiles in one time (with no wave) command *SHADOW is perhaps the solution ? You can, but in RISC OS, IIRC, *SHADOW is not how you do it. It's been a long time since I've written ...

Re: BASIC V SPRITES

The RISC OS Programmer's Reference Manual documents OS_SpriteOp quite comprehensively. It's pretty straightforwards to use, from memory.

Yes, use !Paint to create your sprite files. You can have multiple sprites in a single file.

Re: A3010 worthwhile/worthy?

Our local primary schools had A3000s in the early 90s, but my secondary school had moved from Master Compacts to PCs.

Mind you, I went to school in the Middle East, and there were only 2 British primary schools in the country. :D

Re: TOP 10 GAMES A3010?

I actually agree. I put it in the list because I did play it all the way to the end after I’d bought it. But even at the time I could see that the game design didn’t really stack up compared to Dungeon Master or equivalent dungeon RPGs on other platforms. The problem was, of course, that because th...

download a unique and full picture, and then cut it in several tiles into variables should also possible ?
I would do that on a PC and convert it. IIRC, !Paint isn't very good for that.

A lot of Acorn games like Dungeon really annoyed me, because they could have been awesome but just... weren't. They were impressive technical achievements, but the game itself was pretty meh.

Re: Gimp for sprites

Using GIMP, I just create 1 file per sprite, save in BMP format, and then use an external utility to convert, insert width, height and format headers, then and concatenate all the converted file into a single file with the lookup table at the start.

Re: New RPG for BBC model B

This is a very impressive piece of work! I'm not into RPGs so playing it is a bit beyond me, but I can contribute the following: - The background files are indeed in VIEW format. - The game doesn't run on a Master, even if DFS is selected (this leads to the "this disk title is not ..." message). Ah...

Re: New RPG for BBC model B

Hi Naomasa. I think this is a (possibly faulty) check to determine if the file system is ADFS. If you're using ADFS, you'll need to change to DFS - I'm not sure how to do this. If you feel like short-cutting this logic to see whether the game will work, just delete lines 40 and 45 from the file "DL...

have a main macine code profmgram that loads in other blocks of machine code using osfile or the CLI (see User Guide).
