Re: Questions about my new purchase - Archimedes A3010

1Gb or 2Gb cards will format OK under RISCOS 3.xx as long as you only format to 500Mb. These cards are sometimes cheaper than 500Mb.

If it is of any use, I have a version of my DFS Explorer program which runs natively on the PI. I can provide a download link if required.
That would be a great addition to Pi software, please. I use it on the PC quite a lot. :D

Re: Writing basic on Raspberry Pi and converting to .dsd?

I've found software to write basic but it saves as .bbc files. It would help a lot if I could read. .bbc files are created by Richard Russell's BASIC running on Linux on the Pi. I assumed you were using RISCOS. In the IDE set keywords to be in UPPER CASE, switch on line numbers and turn off ...

Re: Writing basic on Raspberry Pi and converting to .dsd?

There may be other ways but ... BASIC programs written on the Pi will only work on a BBC micro if they are written as BASIC 2 versions. For example WHILE ... ENDWHILE will not be recognised. There may also be some other token differences between Raspberry Pi BASIC and BASIC 2. Therefore I always spo...

Re: poorly Master in need of assistance

I know you said the keyboard does not respond but does power on with the R key held down work? It could be corrupted data in the CMOS RAM.

After that check the 6522s. The system VIA is needed to boot and controls the keyboard, I believe.

That is a nice collection of gear. Are you sure about this? I ask because I thought like you about 20 years ago and got rid of my Acorn stuff then, an action I have regretted ever since. :( :? Re: Old sortware archiving.

One problem you may have is that the original disks are protected and will not archive easily. Unprotected Archimedes discs can be converted to .ADL format by OmniFlop and saved as 800K images (the disk size should be 800K not 720K as that is a DOS format size). If the .ADL images are renamed as .AD...

Best idea is to use SWR. If Disc Doctor is need one time then load that. If ADT is required then load that. It is what I always have done. Re: What are my options for BBC Master ROM Expansion?

I do a lot of work on a Master and use a host of ROMs on it. Internally I have the Retroclinic RAMFS ROM for an Internal Datacentre. There is also a Retroclinic dual OS fitted and this lets me access 4 CF HDDs - about 2GB in total. There is an IFEL battery-backed RAM board which can host up to 8 dif...

Re: Cheap SD/MMC Readers

I've used the TurboMMC and the SPI version and on the Electron the MMFS version. From experience the SPI amd MMFS are the most difficult to use as read/write systems with any disc system. Yes, they can be used but it is difficult to swap whole discs between the card and disc. The quickest and most r...

Very difficult to say without removing the battery, de-gunking and then checking continuity of tracks. A bit risky unless it is less than a tenner. For what it is worth I had an A3020 that looked worse than that and all that was corroded was the link between the battery and the RTC/CMOS chip. A piec...

Welcome, Kapitány. :D Yes, there is a conflict between DFS and MMFS. Only one can be active at a time and when you switch using *DISC or *CARD they don't always set up their workspace correctly. You don't say which version of MMFS you have. There are two commands available in some versions; *IMTOD -...
