Re: A4000 issues

Ta. One PSU just let out some magic smoke lol. Oh the joy of working on older kit. Luckily I had a few spare. A good thing about today,s exercise is Ive verified all the the IDE drives accessible so can use them on other Acorn systems if need be and all the zip ram is ok. Also aptly able to straight...

A4000 issues

I've got a three A4000s and all exhibit a unique issue 1. Machine one has 4megs of ram installed but will only recognize 2megs. If I have the jumpers for 4megs correctly set or 4megs the fdd flashes and the system wont load. Ive tried del on startup, replacing zips but yet no joy. Once the jumpers a...

Re: Today I received.....

Her in doors is aware today so I entered her inner sanctum, the garage, where she carries out her wood working projects. Gave it a good tidy and a sweet. She isn't terribly organized so you can imagine the state it was in. Anyway after about 3 hours and a full rubbish bin I got finished. I know I'll...

Re: Hi from New Zealand.

I'd say the C64 was far more popular. The Apple II in schools with the odd Acorn. I was never in to computers back then until I had to use them when I was posted to a desk job. The kids had a couple of C64s. My first personal system was a 286/16 I bought in 1990. 256k 14" VGA, 1meg of ram, both size...

I've got a couple of older linux systems so dd might be worth a shot. It's amazing how easy it is to install these days compared to the late 90s.

LCD monitor find for vintage kit.

Not long ago I was in one of our second hand shops looking for a beige LCD monitor. I came across a rather cheap plasticy looking black TV. Out of curiosity I picked up to have a gander. To my surprise on the left hand side were a number of video inputs. HDMI, VGA, AV(R L Video and Pr Pb Y), S-video...

Re: Today I received.....

Just thought I'd show off my stash of RiscPCs. Only the bottom two have issues. One transmits a a horrible hiss through the speaker when on, the other is showing signs of cmos/rtc lock. They are in all sorts of different configuration from the original RiscPC OS 3.5 to 4.32, ram and vram sizes. CD r...

Not that I've seen. Master System consoles were very popular though.

RiscOS 5.22 on RiscPCs and A7000 series

Has anyone tried RiscOS 5.22 on RiscPCs and A7000 series systems? If so how compatible is it with 90s era software? The Roms and CD are very fairly priced compared to yesteryear. Also are there isos for 4.06 and 4.39 available as I have two systems with these versions and it would be nice to backups...

Was there ever a lpt port driver for the external LS120 dive or Back Pack CDReader These work well on my 286/12 on Dos and was wondering if drivers existed for these. I know the were drivers for the Iomega 100meg zip drives. Just curious that is all.

I've got a lot of older Acorn/Risc 3.x software on 720k floppies. A few game, some educational programs, drivers and other stuff. Is there an archive or ftp server I can update these to? Be a shame to lose them. If so whats the best format?

Try setting the sync to 0
And monitor type to 3
I think I used Mode 21

That works fine on LCD monitor and LCD TV with my RiscPC.

A 410/1 is due to turn up in a week or so. This could well be an option if the machine turns out to be servicable. I enjoyed reading your articals on this model.
