Re: Eprom programmer

I use a Willem EPROM EEPROM etc. programmer.
They handle a very wide range of chips.
They're about £25 to £30.

Re: Faulty Master???

That does not look right, the rom images have not loaded into the SWRAM slots. The *SRLOAD commands should load the 4 rom images into 4-7 so they should appear when you do *ROMS. Make a copy of the boot file, e.g. load into EDIT and save under a new name; then try editing the boot file in to *SRLOAD...

Re: Faulty Master???

After the first CTRL+BREAK try *ROMS to check that the roms have loaded OK.
I presume that the W-Z map to 4-7 somehow and your system has 4-7 available as SWRAM.

Re: OSSC on an Electron

Problem solved.
For Electron/BBC with RGB to SCART cable the OSSC needs LineMult MODE set to 4.
However for my A310 with a 9 to 15 pin VGA adapter it needs LineMult MODE set to 2.

OSSC on an Electron

I have read the threads showing an Electron, etc. connected to an OSSC working OK so have invested in one. However my Electron is not giving a picture. By default with an RGB to SCART cable connected it shows the image with the borders and the firmware version on the OSSC screen. I assume the OSSC s...

Re: Just bought a heavily upgraded Master 128

Very nice (apart from the Econet port being re-used for IDE drives when there is a perfectly good 1 MHz bus already for this purpose) but the Master does already come with 4 sideways RAM banks as standard... The seller stated that he used the Econet port in order to free up the bus and user ports f...

So
£12 Parts
£1.20 board
£0.50 consumables
£0.88 postage
Rounding up looks like £15.
I would have one at that price.

Yes, it is polarised. C9 is an electrolytic capacitor - the negative is indicated by a lighter stripe on the body pointing to the -ve lead.

And, yes, it really matters which way round it goes! The negative lead should face towards the two big electrolytics C6 and C8.
Thanks Jason,

Re: BBC Master 128 slow to startup

I have opened the psu. C1 & C2 have already been replaced.
I have removed C9. The replacement has one leg longer than the other, long=positive says google.
Does it matter which way round it goes?
I can see no +/- indication on the board.

Using the ROM archive: Such a large collection can only be housed on a DataCentre USB stick or an ADFS hard drive (IDE CF card or BeebSCSI). BBCroms.zip http://rayharper.co.uk/stardot/Stardot.html can be extracted to a directory with any name on the USB stick. UNIMNU7.SSD should be in the same direc...

DataCentre & ADFS Hard drive 1255 x ROM archive with UNIMNU7

Preamble: When I retired about 15y ago I bought a Master 128 that came with a large (about 1000) ROM collection in two main directories - arranged by type and publisher with some duplication. I have not used it because it was too difficult to find what I wanted. Recently I have written software to c...

Thanks for all of the advice.
I have a spare Meanwell PT65A. I have used these in several BBC's previously.
I can put that in my backup Master while I investigate the Master's psu and replace C9 for a start.
Thanks,

BBC Master 128 slow to startup

My Master 128 has become slow to startup from cold - about 15 sec. It has become steadily worse over the last few weeks - longer to start. Once warm - switch off, wait a few seconds, switch on - starts immediately as normal. Wait 10 minutes - takes about 10 sec. Is this symptomatic of a component in...

You can use a standard floppy drive cable. There is usually just enough space for the connector.
Choosing the appropriate set of pin-holes may be hit & miss.

Re: Does FORMAT error pattern show site of problem?

There is a timing issue with 8271 DFS and 3.5" drives. DFS 1.21 may work better. If the format completes, then it means the disc has been formatted but the ? indicates retries. Possibly on the first attempt at formatting a track after stepping, the controller hasn't caught up with the drive and mis...

I have a model B where ADT *FORM 80 0 or *FORM 80 2 gives a pattern of errors: 04? 0D? 16? 1F? 28? 31? 3A? 43? 4C? So error at track 5 and every 9th thereafter. I am using a known good cable, 3.5" drive and discs, DNFS (with DFS1.2). I have cleaned the connector with a brush and IPA. I wonder whethe...

Re: Acorn Electron Plus 3 are they collectable

You can get the edge connectors from Dave Hitchins.
To copy from GoTek to Plus 3 you can BACKUP or COPY the syntax varies depending on whether you are using ADFS or DFS or have a utility ROM such as ADT which has a BACKUP command. For ADFS you may need the Welcome disk for BACKUP.

I have a SCART to VGA, a GBS8200 and John's BBC2DVI.
I prefer the BBC2DVI partly because it requires no power (how is that possible!).
I thought it was expensive but other than the SCART to VGA adapter it is actually competitive.

If your beeb has an 8271 disc interface and you don't plan to upgrade then MMC is the choice unless you plan to use a second processor.
