Re: New Advanced User Guide (Remastered)

Out of interest, what sort of information were you trying to find? I'm 'trying' to convert the MGC MKII !BOOT sequence from BASIC into m/c - in an attempt to reduce the start-up time. This is the biggest m/c endeavor I've undertaken and I'm very grateful for the patience of David Boddie and JGH ans...

Re: Mega Games Cartridge for the Electron MGC

Will there be another batch of these mega cartridges available at some point? Or did I completely missed the boat on this? Thanks Mark You've missed the first two batches, sorry. The main issue, with making more, is obtaining the 29F032. As they've become difficult to find, the price has gone throu...

Re: Issue 4 Electron - Won't power up

Edit: Hmmm. It seems that I need to install 2 x 16 ROMs to get the E00 ADFS to work. I just tried without the library ROM, but I get an error 'E00 ADFS Module load failed'. I don't have enough banks to install E00 ADFS and E00 DFS, so I'll just switch back to the standard ADFS for now. The ADFS E00...

Re: New Advanced User Guide (Remastered)

The remastered guides are intended to be an accurate digital copy of the original books, albeit with many error corrections, which limits the scope for adding new material. Any significant additions would need to be in a separate appendix to preserve the original page layout. Not to worry, just a t...

Re: Issue 4 Electron - Won't power up

Yes, Mark's correct. Move the RAM to the left hand socket - move the ADFS ROM to the socket vacated by the RAM and the socket you'll have left is for the DFS E00 ROM. Don't forget to remove the jumper when you fit the DFS E00 ROM!!

Re: Issue 4 Electron - Won't power up

I'm looking at what I need to do to upgrade the Plus 1 ROM. The existing ROM is 24 pin. I understand it's a compact 8k ROM (2364?) that has a different pinout to the standard 2764. Do I need an adaptor board to use a standard 2764 / 27128 EPROM? This thread seems to suggest otherwise. I use a 28C25...

Re: Another Elk lives

Great info Dave, and thanks for the detailed reply - like Mark's reply above, more info than anyone could ask for! If/when I do upgrade, I'll get a better PSU to power everything. Ideally, I'd like to get hold of a Plus 1 for a reasonable price, and then look at the options from there. Dave, do you...

Re: Issue 4 Electron - Won't power up

Hi Dave. Thanks for the information and the manual. I think I'm starting to get a better understanding of it all. Would I be correct in understanding that I need one of your AP6 boards if I want to install multiple ROMs, and that this board fits inside the AP1? Yes you would and it does. If I also ...

Re: Issue 4 Electron - Won't power up

You can start by upgrading the Plus 1 OS ROM... Think I've got quite a lot to learn about the Electron / Plus 1 :? I've read a few posts about upgrading the ROM, and found a link to here . Is this what I should be upgrading to (the 16k ROM - AP6v131t.rom)? Is this just a drop in replacement,...

Re: Another Elk lives

Dave, that leads me to a question - I'm running my Elk/s with a 12V DC 1A power brick. If I were to get a Plus 1, can I still use this power brick or will I need to get an 18VAC one? It's all down to efficiency! Which I've not tested, as yet - Groan - another project  Efficiency is calculated ...

It looks like we've reached our limit of "seats" in the organisation, at least until someone pays to upgrade to a paid account. So, either we retire inactive members or a discussion needs to be had about upgrading.
Do we know what the price is for this upgrade?

So on very basic inspection of BeebEm Mac it's built against the Carbon SDK which was removed from macOS Catalina 10.15. So it needs the GUI porting to AppKit which should doable. Might be worth wrapping the C code into SPM module and then writing the GUI application using Swift so that it will kee...
