Re: Help with a forlorn A3010 please

Don't format it until you know there's no source code on it. As JASPP owns the rights to the Krisalis titles, I'd love to get hold of any Krisalis source code, so we can release 32bit versions of the games.

Re: A4000 + Uniboot = error "Expression is a string"

Are you sure that the System Resources mentioned in your post will work under 3.1 on an A4000? The earliest model they say they support is the A7000. Not sure where you're reading that, the archive is for all pre-RISC OS 5 machines. If you look inside the archive, you'll find the majority of the Mo...

Re: A4000 + Uniboot = error "Expression is a string"

type "desktop" and hit return to start the desktop then the error dialog pops up a while after the Vprotect banner is displayed and before the screen is cleared That rules out anything in !Boot.Choices.Boot.Tasks. It's likely to be something in Resources or a loaded Module possibly attempting to st...

!Boot.Choices.Boot.Desktop is called as the last thing in !Boot.Utils.BootRun. What happens if you comment out that line and then manually run !Boot.Choices.Boot.Desktop?

Re: A4000 + Uniboot = error "Expression is a string"

As I noted in an earlier post, I used Error calls to to just what you said and noted where the message appears, and it seems somewhere inbetween two scripts. Sorry, missed that post. Boot$OSVersion is created as a string but used as a value when checks are done - if it's not converted to a value on...

Re: A4000 + Uniboot = error "Expression is a string"

at the end of the boot process before Pinboard starts I get an error dialog come up "Expression is a string". Does anyone happen to know what script in !Boot is causing this and how to fix the issue. It's rather annoying. The error means a numerical check is being done against a string. So there's ...

ADFFS 2.72 released

ADFFS 2.72 is now available for direct download. Or via PackMan using the JASPP source URL: http://www.jaspp.org.uk/packages/release

It's mostly a stability update for games run under the JIT, but there are a few bug fixes for RISC OS 3.x users.

Yes that would have been my work-in-progress update of Mike's original... Sadly not progressed much I'm afraid Out of curiosity, what's outstanding? A few Arc game releases run under 6502 emulation, I would at some point like to switch them to a 32bit emulator. I'm surprised someone hasn't made a J...

I tried doing a DOS FC comparison of the old and new ImageJFD Basic files but it reports they are the same.
I've reattached it for you to grab again as I definitely fixed the selection bug. I've done an FC /B and this is definitely the fixed version.

I think I switched to the test build as you'd improved instruction timing and added basic JFD support, which saved me from digging out physical machines to test game speed.

Are you any closer to a stable release?

I have a vague memory of Steve putting a working copy of 6502Em on one of my machines at the London show. I'm sure he was running games with it as well, so it can't be far off from a release. Re: ADFFS launch error

ADFFS can run from anywhere, but there might be a conflict with two versions being seen. Try renaming !ADFFS in the root to o!ADFFS so the OS ignores it. Was 2.09 already loaded when you launched 2.70? There were changes to the ADFFS Filer which might cause issues if Modules from 2.09 were already r...

The same way as old school HD's - with HForm.

Excellent progress, looking forward to see the finished item.

Being able to switch ROM is certainly going to help me test games - I'm currently having to keep several machines at different OS levels. I might finally be able to reduce the amount of kit I have down to a sensible level

Re: RISC OS 3.20 ROM's?

So I guess no big deal -- just the checksum failing, which is probably also what happened in Arculator. On my expansion board the communication system overwrites a couple of bits in the last four words of the ROM too, so that could cause this issue. I'll see if I can minimize this. At least you got...

It just pushes out fluxes so the hard work would have to be done on the Pi end... It has an ARM on board and custom firmware, so could handle 177x commands via USB if implemented. Sending just flux to the RISC OS ARM chip would probably kill all but the quickest ARM's, as there's so much data to tr...

I have an A5000 with similar symptoms, the CPU isn't initialising. Visually I couldn't tell there was any damage, I found out where the issue was when I soaked the board and several SMD's south of the CPU departed ways. I reflowed them, but there's further damage somewhere as it still doesn't kick o...

Re: Low _low_ level ADFS F floppy disk format?

This, on the other hand :) If it can accept 1770 style commands, I reckon you could probably get ADFS working on a Pi with a USB shim to convert the IO port read/writes to USB equivalents. I knocked up a quick read-only proof of concept USB ADFS floppy driver in a few hours recently, whilst we were...

Hi, I've been trying to image disc 1 of black angel using ADFFS but it reports a bad block towards the end If you're imaging to a JFD using ADFFS 2.70 the last two blocks should be marked as protection sectors. I find Kryoflux very useful for quickly imaging protected floppies for analysis, but the team behind it really aren't interested in opening it up. I've been asking for years for access to the source, the latest reply doesn't instil confidence, given I originally contacted them over 5 years ago.
