Re: Emulatoring Older RISC OS.

ADFFS is the Archimedes equivalent of WHDLoad but you will need 4MB of RAM and a HD to use it with floppy images. It will present a specific version of RISC OS to a game on RISC OS 3.71 and above, but this functionality isn't required on RISC OS 3.1x as RISC OS 2.0 software can be made to work with...

Re: How to write disk images for the A3000 ?

Jon's site has the rights for wolfenstein 3D. This is the 32 bit version however so don't know if it'll run on an A3000. JASPP does indeed have rights to release a version of Wolfenstein 3D and its 26/32bit neutral so should run on original Arcs. It might slow down when you're shot as I added a scr...

Re: Copying Apps from CD (ISO) to HDD

I've had a look at the copy of Xenon2 on a physical AU10 CD and it's corrupt. Most of the file is missing, which is why you're having problems running it. I'll see if I have the original floppy in the archive to compare. The archive copy on the CD is also corrupt ( archived.games.ex-commercial.xeno...

£8 for a digital download £8 for a piece of free software? :? The software really needs to go up on Chris's Acorns, along with photos and info about the card. From the brief info I found out about it, it sounds like a decent piece of kit - one of the true digital capture cards. Pretty rare as well ...

the same error occurs =/ Unlikely to be screen or RMA allocation then. I'll see if I have that version to test, I don't recall the AU version being massively different except some changes for the SoundTracker. You need to run ADFFS.

CJEMicros have the Irlam i16 listed, you could try asking if the could make the software available free of charge, assuming they actually have the accompanying floppy.

Re: Copying Apps from CD (ISO) to HDD

"No writable memory at this address" Has anyone seen that before? You possibly don't have enough screen memory allocated. Download ADFFS and use the Xenon 2 boot script to run it. The scripts are in !ADFFS.Obey which is a ZIP file full of Obey files. From memory I think Xenon 2 needs a specific amo...

Re: Copying Apps from CD (ISO) to HDD

Jon Abbott from the JASPP has done an updated CDFaker module with extended capabilities (which you don't need for plain old ISO9660 files). I have indeed extended it, the latest version can be downloaded from JASPP . Support was added for CUE/BIN and CDAudio and the SCSI ID for the virtual CD can n...

Re: ADFFS drop down menu issue

The drop down box to the right of the title bar doesn't display directly (it's not very wide) so it's impossible to see the game titles or select them correctly (usually end up with zool when I click in the space). Try updating your Wimp, using the latest System Resources file from ROOL. You could ...

Something along the lines of:

OSCLI "SAVE IDEHandler "+STR$~A%+"+"+STR$~(A%!-4)

Re: Help with a forlorn A3010 please

Whilst other versions of the RISC developmments card may have included a IDEFS filing system, this doesn't. The documents linked refer to RISC OS 2.0 and 2.01, so quite old. Like the later Castle card this hooks into ADFS under RISC 3.0 and later. http://chrisacorns.computinghistory.org.uk/32bit_Up...

Re: Help with a forlorn A3010 please

It will be great if the patch does work, but I think it's unlikely. Whilst the IDE card is using ADFS, it's replacing the hardware access layer, to access completely different hardware. I don't think it will work either, I'm pretty certain IDEFS needs patching separately in this case as its a 3rd p...

Use the pre-patched ADFS 2.68 in preference to the live patch, as it also patches an issue with large data transfers. It's attached to the post I linked too.

This is the third drive and the only one that identifies enough to get that far. I have ordered a compact flash adapter and a 512Mb card for it. Don't format it until you know there's no source code on it. As JASPP owns the rights to the Krisalis titles, I'd love to get hold of any Krisalis source code, so we can release 32bit versions of the games.

Are you sure that the System Resources mentioned in your post will work under 3.1 on an A4000? The earliest model they say they support is the A7000. ADFFS 2.72 released

ADFFS 2.72 is now available for direct download. Or via PackMan using the JASPP source URL: http://www.jaspp.org.uk/packages/release

It's mostly a stability update for games run under the JIT, but there are a few bug fixes for RISC OS 3.x users.
