Re: A540 (or R260) 4MB card

Passed all my usual tests and the test which showed the issue with the A3000 upgrades. When I get another made, I'll be looking for a volunteer to test it. I only have one A540, so it would be nice to see if it works in other machines. Need to salvage some more ram chips from SIMMs first. I have a ...

Here's The Great Escape coming to life on RISC OS 3.11 (via ArcEm running on my Iyonix). It's presently suffering from some problems including poor speed. It might be alright on real hardware, we'll see. tge.png D. Once we are out of this social isolation gash, bring it round to mine, A5000 and R26...

Re: New Acorn 8bit? Should there be one?

It would be a crying shame if the BBC didn't get a re-invent. C64 has had it as has speccy. The trouble is as we have seen with Spectrum Next it is not so easy to pull off. I think it should be kept simple. Design one case like the BBC Micro. Chuck it all in there. Put a pi in it that boots straigh...

If you are considering alternatives, I use Zip drives I bought on eBay for about £15 I use a parallel one for the Archie/RiscPC and a USB one for my Mac and/or PC Not quite solving the serial problem but my go to transfer method. Which Arch do you have? Zip Drive not liokely to work on an A3000 (un...

Not sure what podules to fling in it other than SCSI for MEU and possibly Color card from R260 as it doesn't get used properly in that machine. Ethernet podule? Relive the internet ca. 1996 Forgot about that, and have a spare. Internet would be scary and a bit of a no-no but it would be handy for g...

Re: ADFS/ZIDEFS format for using CF card with PC?

That's a good idea, and one I'll try, but I also want to use this SD card to replace the existing ESDI drive, so I'd want an ADFS partition on there too. (If I can't get a second partition, I might have to opt for a second CF card and converter.) Did you ever get this working ? Have an A5000 myself...

Re: Trying again with my A3010....

Main intrigue is I have my adelaide board back, was going to pop it in and see if the machine could be coaxed back to life. Do you mean the Adelaide board was removed/desoldered from the PCB? That would have been a lot of work I'm sure... I was considering removing the Adelaide from my early A3010 ...

So, I bought a relatively clean A3010 at the last RONWUG meeting. Got it cleaned up, fitted an IDE interface, but it just didn't feel right without Econet. Looking at the A3010 and A3020 circuit diagrams, there are only 3 signals that aren't available on the mini-podule interface, and one of them i...

I have an identical spec R260 and have RISCiX on SCSI2SD. If you want the SD card image, let me know. I've had the ColourCard working under RO3 but don't think RISCiX liked it so tended not to use it. I've got another ColourCard in my (RO3-only) A540 and it works really well once you get the config...

Re: A540 with VGA monitor (DEL) should it work?

sometimes for whatever reason, the "holding keys on boot" doesn't work and you have to do it a different way. My R260 is particularly obstinate after a long period of inactivity. So after your DEL power-on do the following: Power on Wait 20 seconds or so Press CTRL G. This will emit a continuous bee...
