Re: Can't get Gotek Flash Floppy working. u56=USB

OK, it looks like it is the card adapters that I have that it doesn't like, as I found an old £ shop one and the cards that weren't working are, still a no go on the other sticks (6 of them) though. Some of the sticks and all of the adapters (except the £ shop one) don't have the metal surround on t...

Re: Can't get Gotek Flash Floppy working. u56=USB

I've just tried the stick on my car keys (an old Cruser) and it works! I don't know why I didn't try it before! Still, at least I can start on my menu system, once I have finished Scramble anyway ;) PS I remembered that I had used it at Revival on a Master that someone had there to show them some of...

Re: Can't get Gotek Flash Floppy working. u56=USB

I'm using the aux socket on a beeb, the serial adapter that I used for programming them and a stand a lone 5V power supply. The beeb is exactly (according to my meter) 5.00V, the USB is 4.98V and I can adjust the other, but have been trying it at 4.9, 5 and 5.1V. My friend was using his on an Amiga ...

Re: Can't get Gotek Flash Floppy working. u56=USB

Long story short, I have tried over 20 sticks/cards and none work.
I have a friend who had the same problem, but eventually found one that worked.
I have borrowed his and it works in mine too.
Does anyone know where I can get an old Kingston DTI/1GB or of a currently available one that works?

Welcome, I don't think you are alone around there.
There is a Google map in someone's signature that you can register on if you like.
Have you found bbcmicro.co.UK yet?

Welcome, I'm sure you know more about the Archie than me :)
I'm not sure if I have ever touched one, even after going to several riscos events.
I do remember a helicopter flying up and down a street with a search light, or did I imagine that?

Re: New version of Scramble for the beeb (going well)

That is correct, four copies of four pixels per pair, I think my maps end up with 30 pairs which fits nicely into four pages. Same clipping, mostly for the sprites, but also to keep things simpler (apart from those trixy masters). You can see it in the early video before hiding the sides. I only hav...

If it is very small, could you wait for vsync, run the test and count cycles until the next vsync?

Or if it is just hw, count cycles between vsyncs.

Re: New version of Scramble for the beeb (going well)

I had also forgotten about the sound.
During play, the three tone channels are used for the engine noise (womwom), the bomb (descending) and shouting (dumdum) while noise is used for explosions, so can also be used for whistling when not exploding.

Re: New version of Scramble for the beeb (going well)

I will try and write it up, but it won't be as good as pop. For now: The scrolling is similar to what I described in the smb thread. I was asked about collision detection, and here is what I said. For scramble, I check the character address of the shot/bomb against the character addresses of the roc...

If you have a DFS loaded, ~PAGE is probably at &1900, but tape games often expect it to be at &E00.
Try:

Code: Select all

*TAPE
PAGE=&E00
CH.""
I'm sure someone will be along to correct me ;)

EDIT: *TV100 just seems wrong!

As I had a DB15 to hand, I just had a quick check of my "to hand" machines and the issue 3 has the same reading as above, while the issue 7 and master both have 0.96x kOhms in both directions.
Caveat, my battery is low in my meter!

Re: New version of Scramble for the beeb (going well)

After fixing my crash bug (I had removed an RTS!) I have 842 bytes left. Adding meteor sounds would be quite easy and channel 0 is free as long as you aren't exploding something ;) I just hadn't realised that there was sound there! Did I miss any other sounds? I've been thinking about difficulty and...

Here is my Issue 2 model B, in case you are interested.
I bought it off its original owner and haven't touched it, other than to give it a bit of a clean, works nicely, if a little toasty.

Is that the original PSU?
If not, it will probably run cooler anyway.
Which machines had the OS in 4 chips and basic in the os socket?
Probably not worth changing that either.
I lost quite a bit of code to os0.1 bitd.
