Thanks, I wish there was more time or more people to show what the beeb could do.

Re: On the subject of horizontal software scrolling games

Added mirroring, the most demanding bit now takes 20% of a frame, so plenty of 6502 time to add a game! timing_test3.png The level gfx are a little verbose at 4.5K, but after the landscape code, that still leaves 4.5K free (already reserved 1K for status area). A big game would require SWRAM, but th...

Re: On the subject of horizontal software scrolling games

Yesterday, I thought that I would revisit MODE 1 single pixel horizontal scrolling for games and this morning I have a nearly working timing test. In this diagram, I am trying to show how the new pixels are added to the existing image. drawing_eg.png The current screen ends with a green pixel follow...

Re: High Score Challenge S11 - R7 - Phoenix

That'll be another bug! In the Arcade, if you kill all the "birds", they re-spawn and you continue (I've never managed it on mine). I quite like the idea that you complete the level but get no bonus - makes it a bit of a risk/reward thing. If you take until the boss gets as low as it can, you will o...

Re: BBC B+ fault

I really need to do some more work on that ROM.
The best way to use it at the moment is to load it into an emulator and run it side by side and compare the differences.
I wrote it with the model B in mind, so it doesn't set up ACCRON.

Re: my beeb just pegged it :(

My test ROM is one of my unfinished projects, but does boot a beeb without relying on ram. There are a few videos around, but the easiest way to use it is probably to run it on an emulator side-by-side and compare what you see and hear. Alex did have a beeb, but space/priorities meant that he didn't...

Re: High Score Challenge S11 - R7 - Phoenix

I see/hear what you mean! I think dying as you activate the shield is the cause of the high pitched tone, but I can't reproduce this (and it should be impossible with the previous fix). The strangeness with the "big" explosions seems to depend on the size of the setuo_level function, although I can'...

Silenced the shield at end of level.
Sorry that Phoenix was further from ready than I thought.
It still needs all the sprite routines re-writing to no longer be "WiP".

Re: Assembly language text adventure

Great start. Often 0 is used as a terminator so that you can BEQ (Branch EQual 0) out of a loop or BNE (Branch Not Equal 0) back to the start of a loop. If you only have 128 "valid" values, you can do the same thing with BPL (Branch PLus)/BMI (Branch MInus). I have also seen simple text encoding whe...

Re: Putting together a GOTEK, what do I need...

It looks like there was a bug introduced in to flash floppy, possibly a couple of weeks ago, which should mean that it doesn't affect v1.1 from a month ago. The latest v2.4 has a fix for that bug. The example FF.CFG with the line nav-mode = native was for normal use, my version has nav-mode = indexe...

Re: Assembly language text adventure

When it comes to tricky bugs, I would say using an emulator's debugger is 10 to 100X faster, although it can encourage you to be lazy! If one of your locations has an unexpected value, running b-em with a watchw will list every instruction writing to that location and the value written. In beebem, y...
