Re: Did Peter Scott live in Germany?

I can't answer the question but very much related is that for some reason, outside of the big commercial titles, caving was THE game that kept me coming back for more. I always loved it.

It's also a great example of the predictability of randomness in computing :D

RCM on the TV

I just saw an announcement on the local BBC news that the RCM is going to be on "Inside Out" East Midlands tonight as they cover the "craze" of collecting old home computers. I'm guessing that the show will appear on the following link sometime after 8:30pm tonight (11th March) for everyone that doe...

Mine will be in my master with a Pi co-pro internally and an external datacenter, but I've also got a beebscsi mini which I could use with the master. It's also got Econet and I'm planning on updating my drive/monitor bridge with a gotek. The plan for the bridge is to fit an internal datacenter in a...

Re: Am I a Monster?

If something has become rare and you happen to be sitting on one of the last examples then, even if it is legally yours, one might consider himself just being the custodian of it for future generations. I am sure that is the way museum curators feel. I am not sure the BBC micro is quite that rare y...

Re: How does RISC OS detect "native" VIDC enhancer capabilities?

The way AutoVIDC works with auto-switching clocks is that on the service mode change, it examines the spot of memory that RISC OS writes the clock speed in kHz to and compares that to the known clocks AutoVIDC has detected. If the enhancer circuit is deemed to be either I2C or Aux controlled then it...

Re: Retro upgrades, value for money, eBay & why bother?

Now that feedback doesn't appear to be truthful in and of itself. I'm assuming that the reference to "attacking and listing on *." are referring to this thread. Up until you posted the screenshot, I had no idea who the buyer was from this thread. Nor do I interpret this thread as an attack on the bu...

Re: B-em on OSX with M5000 support

This bug means the value used is actually 0x53C64 (bit 7 of 24 is incorrectly set to 0), resulting in a frequency of 999.627 Hz. i.e. the error is 0.0327% This probably isn't noticeable. I couldn't hear the difference either but, as the consensus seems to be it is a bug, I have pushed the fix to ma...

Re: How does RISC OS detect "native" VIDC enhancer capabilities?

To add to what Steve has said, i also developed a pcb that can be agreed into an older arc to give native support for extra clocks. It's short of an ad on to a aux controlled VIDC Enhancer where it picks up several signals from the motherboard and latches based on those signals replacing the user of...

Re: The 8-Bit Guy's new 65816 based computer

Is interesting that he talks about the Pi as just a Linux machine. Surely sticking RISC OS on there and using BBC BASIC with ARM assembler gets him "close to the hardware" like he wants. I realise it's not an 8-bit, machine at this point but it would achieve all his other goals with zero effort. Paul

Re: B-em on OSX with M5000 support

I think the frequency could be wrong if that bit gets set by the computer as the emulation clears it. I honestly can't hear the difference when changing this value. I've been playing a selection of ample tracks all evening and playing with the mixer with different voices but there's no discernible ...

I think I have also found a bug in the M5000 emulation :

https://github.com/stardot/b-em/issues/75
I've just altered this in my Visual Studio build and I can't necessarily see/hear any difference in the emulation. What would you be expecting to see/hear in relation to changing the value?

Lol, my NewBrain's PSU has a dodgy RIFA in it and it must be twice the size of the Beeb ones. I keep meaning to get some ordered to replace it. Not a BBC but I have one of a pair of Arc A410/1 machines from Stonar school (Beeb master has the other one) and mine was still in use by the school in 1999 according to the data on the files on the original (now dead) HDD.
