I will probably drop in on this one. philpem has kindly agreed to give a talk at next week's RISC OS London Show about archiving, so it's probably a good idea for me to get a bit better informed!

In that classic bug report reply - it works when I try it!

Although it is messing with my mind that you put the test that way round rather than UNTIL ?F%=0

Mike Cook online at WROCC, Wed 7th Oct 2020

The next online meeting of the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club on Wednesday 7th October 2020 at 7.45pm will feature guest speaker Mike Cook. Mike Cook, whose name will be familiar to many round here from his hardware-based “Body Building Course” and “Run the RISC” series in The Micro User and Acorn ...

Re: (re) Installing RISCOS 4.02

How are you writing the CD on Windows - which software and what options? If you've just drag and dropped onto the CD then I think Windows writes in packet format (kind of a FAT filesystem on CD), which RISC OS can't read. You need to write it in ISO9660 format, in one session, and closed. (sorry, lo...

whenever I set the new monitor: "Filing system ADFS: must be given a filename". I don't see any field where I can give a filename. Could it be that it tries to save the new settings but fails? Could be worth asking over on the ROOL forum as there are a lot of RISC OS users there who now use a newer machine and might have an unused RiscPC.

Re: Type-in program bug

Looking at the PDF, there is an error on the very first proper line of the program (line 30)! It should say: ON ERROR GOTO 2660 Now if you had got that line correct, then any errors in the program will jump to the error handler at line 2660 which prints the error message. Check those lines very care...

An open equivalent would be: DeskPi Pro + Free 3D game engine + an Acorn Emulator
If you're going down that line you might be better looking at one of the many RISCOSbits case options.

Although if the program is asking you to enter the filename, then can you simply enter ":1.file" when prompted and not need to edit the program at all?

What was great about Beeb emulators on RISC OS was being able to open up a disc image in the desktop and edit or manipulate the files. Also you could click on an exec file to launch. The downside was they could be too slow for older CPUs. We these definitely disc images? Working with the files insi...
