Can you post some more pictures of the drive. The underside, the end with the connector (disconnected preferably)

The few hits on google for the part number seem to think it's IDE.

Have you done a Del-power-on since re-fitting the board? (CMOS settings may be confused) What device have you got plugged into the card, do you have any others you can try? (The "User port" is more likely to be a way of connecting an external drive, never seen anyone use it for IDE) edit: "*Configur...

8-bit IDE V3c, This fits vertically within a A3000/A30x0/A4000, The podule connector pins are now fitted on the other side of the board compared to the original batch, so they should fit in an A3020 or A4000 with an Econet card. There should be a spring in there - have a look here: http://www.webmonster.co.nz/ro_hardware/slices/riscpcflap.html d. That looks like it puts the attachment point for the spring a bit high. 16-bit IDE V1c, these will fit into the backplane of any machine with a full-size podule bus. (e.g. A3x0/A4x0/A540/A5000/A7000/RPC). Re: Beeb 1MHz Bus FPGA Adaptor

I think I must be missing something obvious. Won't these pins get in the way when fitting the SRAM. The SRAM is mounted on the bottom, the capacitor is on the top, sothe components don't physically clash. Aren't the caps through-hole? Or are you effectively treating them as surface mount and only s...

I think the verify command should map out any defects found. Using a hard disc with bad sectors is never a good idea. You suggested then that you had one or two modules to try in order to determine the facts in relation to the inversion (or not) issue - did you conclude anything?
Nope, not tried it yet, it's still on the list, just not a high priority.

Re: Wires? Pah.....

Hi Janes - well, if you know that a given module can only drive all the RS232 lines at 0v to +5v (no negative) then no, you don’t need either the diodes or the resistors and for the latter, just connect the lines straight through. Though the TTL signals will need inverting. RS-232 "1" is a negative...

Sean, that's ridiculously generous of you. If you're happy to do that then I can probably knock cables out for under £3. Or less depending on how much I can get IDC connectors for...
