Re: Music 500/5000 cable question

Holy hell’s teeth, I forgot about this. I need to write things down to remind me that I’ve written things down these days. Anyway, no joy goshdarnit - can’t tell if the cable really works, ‘cos the tape deck deffo doesn’t. I’ll just get a new one I think, or roll my own even. Or instead of including...

Re: Music 500/5000 cable question

Can I use my tongue?

I just remembered I’ve got a tape recorder in storage that uses a 5-pin DIN à la Beeb, and I’m going there this afternoon to salvage some other stuff. I think I’ll use that to test out the lead before I go bulbing and tonguing things xD

Re: Music 500/5000 cable question

Ah sorry, I misread, gotcha. Unfortunately my multimeter’s in storage, I can’t get at it at the moment. I’m probably being a bit petty, for something that cost two quid - I just wanted to check that there wasn’t some kind of universal thing with modern leads that was wrong for this job, but it seems...

Re: Music 500/5000 cable question

It’s not the unit that’s at fault, it works with that 4-way cable, and no multimeter here at the moment anyway. The lead is a cheap fully moulded affair, I couldn’t rewire that without destroying it, or even open it. I might do that in the end though, just to see its innards. It’s only the price of ...

Re: Music 500/5000 cable question

Thanks guys, I knew I’d get some great answers here, you lot rock the fire. This is the lead I bought: https://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=113023527141&category=14964&pm=1&ds=0&t=1602015161180&cspheader=1&versionid=2344495813001 I get no sound at all from it, but acco...

Re: Music 500/5000 cable question

Curious... I’m pretty sure that’s what the lead I bought IS.. and would explain why ALL the leads on eBay say pin 3 & 5, I figured there must be some kind of standard, since the Music 500 manual just says “buy an audio DIN lead”, or words to that effect. Perhaps I just got a dodgy lead. It’s the sam...

Music 500/5000 cable question

Yo dudes, Okay this is such a noobish thing to ask, but what connections are used for a Music 5000 audio DIN output lead, and where might I lay my mittens upon one? All the ones on eBay etc seem to have pins 3 & 5 connected, which doesn’t work. I have a 4 way phono to DIN lead which does work, but t...

Re: The Watford Gap

Just as an update on this, I give up. I've tested the thing on umpteen machines, RISC OS 2 and 3, and it does the same shit every time. I've tried it with different CF cards, different CF card interfaces, and with different physical drives too now - all the same result. No idea why the hell it works...

Re: The Watford Gap

Can I ask whether you made the IDE drive that you're using with the interface that you're using, with the Watford IDEUtils? I have not... but the cards/interfaces (3 different of each) all work on every other IDE podule I have. When I try to format a card fresh with the Watford utils, it appears to...

Re: The Watford Gap

The card only supplies 3 configuration parameters: IDEFSBuffers and IDEFSDirCache, where I've idly experimented with all sorts of numbers, none of which make any difference (they're both on 32 at the moment), and IDFSDrive, which is 4 as one would expect. *CAT and all file operations from the comman...

Re: The Watford Gap

What filing system name is displayed when you do *cat and does it match what is shown if you press menu on the filer icon? Is the disc name showing under the icon? Paste here the output of *status so we can see what the disc settings are. Ok, I'll do that when I fire up the machine later. I've test...

The Watford Gap

Hello chaps I have a Watford IDE podule, same as the first one on Chris's Acorns. It appears to work on both RISC OS 2 and 3. Except it doesn't. I don't have the right cable handy to check it with an actual spinny HD, but I have plenty of CF cards and adapters. They all say something like (I'm parap...

Dave/Mark - would either of you two be able to give me a lift, if I made my own way to your place first? It'd turn me from a "possible" into a "definite"... plus I know Germany really well so could assist you with any brushes with law enforcement officers or lederhosen ;)

Re: The time to sell my unused B+ has come....

Mark : that'd be cool, perhaps. Normally these days, I'm only really interested in minty-mint stuff - I've got more than enough scruffy Beebs! - but since I've so far not managed to procure a single B+ of either flavour (shocking, I know), I guess I can't be too fussy.... so I'm interested, dependi...

Nice...

...but hasn't anyone got a 128K one for sale? With proper crappy stickers and that?

(also, something I often wondered: on the 128K keystrip, underneath the sticker, is it a 64K badged strip, a normal Beeb one, or completely blank? you can surely see from the underside...)

In fairness, the Beeb is probably the only system where the deep-dyed misuse of the term ROM is likely to cause genuine confusion ;)

If you mount one image in drive 0 and the other in drive 1 you should be able to just copy between them... not 100% sure though, it's been aeons since I used an emulator!

Re: Retro Boerse / 7 May 2011 / Bochum, Germany

I'd be up for this if I can travel again by then, Bochum's a nice city. Won't everyone be talking German though? I can handle that, but it might put many off? I would consider making a trip abroad for a whole-weekend event, but not for a five-hour one. I've crossed continents for a single concert be...
